Shooting near sets of 'Chicago Fire' halts NBC show filming

There is no update yet on when filming for the show will resume. The incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.

NBC's hit drama 'Chicago Fire halted filming on Wednesday at noon after a gunman opened fire at a group of people nearly the production sets. Reports confirm that no individuals related to production were injured or the shooting. However, there is no update yet on when filming for the show will resume. The incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.

Per a statement by the Chicago Police Department, the gunman was unidentified and was seen carrying a handgun. The suspect shot a group of people standing in the 5900 block of W. Madison Street at approximately 1:45 p.m local time and later fled in a dark-colored SUV (yet to be identified as well). Per a Variety report, a source close to the production said the suspension of filming was a confirmed bit and production had entered the standard security protocols.

However, there was some conflicting information coming in as well with CWB-Chicago reporting that a stray bullet hit camera equipment — which The Hollywood Reporter called an inaccurate claim. The latter also added that the production was immediately shut down in accordance with the safety protocols. This marks the third incident to take place on the sets of a TV show in Chicago. Earlier, it was reported that a stray bullet hit the trailer belonging to the crew of 'Chicago Med'. In August. someone lit an object and threw it at the crew disrupting the shoot. No casualties were reported. 'Chicago Fire' will premiere the first episode of Season 11 on Sept. 21.

As far as the show's news goes, the network hasn't released an official synopsis yet. The broader logline reads, "his edge-of-your-seat ride is a look into the professional and personal lives of the firefighters and paramedics of Firehouse 51 as they risk their lives every day to save and protect the citizens of Chicago." The first episode is titled 'Hold on Tight' and will air at 9/8c on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022.
