Celebrity sweethearts Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have announced their breakup after two years of togetherness. The young musicians started dating in July 2019, five years after they met each other while opening for Austin Mahone. Much to the disappointment and heartbreak of fans, America's darling duo revealed their split via a statement posted on Instagram. 

"Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever (heart emoji) We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward (heart emojis)," both Camila and Shawn posted the statement on their respective Instagram stories. The 'Senorita' hitmakers were hailed for their picture-perfect love story — always supporting each other through thick and thin and cherishing every moment in each other's company. In fact, they were popular among their fanbase for setting 'relationship goals'. Fans had been shipping the two friends together long before they even started seeing each other.

While the exact reason behind their split is still unclear, fans are already busy speculating what exactly went wrong between the couple. In fact, the last photo on Shawn Mendes' Instagram feeds happens to be cozy snaps of the duo on Feliz día de Los Muertos (The Day of The Dead), where they were spotted happily dancing together. The 24-year-old 'Havana' singer and the 23-year-old Canadian artist were last spotted publicly on November 3, 2021, when they were enjoying a beach day in Miami. They were even papped kissing each other passionately while spending a relaxing day on the shore. 

While most fans are still reeling from the shock of the sudden breakup, others are pouring their unfailing love and support for both amid the heartbreak. 

"@ShawnMendes and @Camila_Cabello just broke up and I think I’m more upset about than they are. This feeling is worse than death," a fan wrote on Twitter. Another heartbroken fan tweeted, "IM NEVER BELIEVING IN LOVE EVER AGAIN."

"I’m literally not well….. Shawn Mendes and Camila have broken up! I can’t listen to the album wonder or romance now without crying. I no longer believe in love," a third fan wrote.

A few trolls took to Twitter to spread rumors that Shawn Mendes would be coming out as queer next. However, the rumors are quite baseless and there had been no indication of the same from the singer's side. A handful of others also mocked the couple's relationship as a mere 'publicity stunt' for their super hit duet 'Señorita', but Camila and Shawn fans spoke out against the unfounded speculations and trolling.
