‘Shark Tank’ Season 12: How Daymond John stole $100,000 deal for Buckle Me Baby Coats from Barbara Corcoran

What really appealed to the Sharks was Dahlia Rizk's sales which turned out to be $500,000 last year without any help or investment

When Barbara Corcoran sets her eyes on a ‘Shark Tank’ deal, she wants it by hook or crook. Whether she gets it or not is another story. The seventh episode was a rollercoaster of sorts for the 71-year-old Shark who clinched the Holiball deal after pairing with Mark Cuban. But when it came to Dahlia Rizk's Buckle Me Baby Coats, it was a case of reversed fate.

Founder Rizk presented her innovative product for paranoid moms. How did she come up with the idea? Rizk hated the “No Coat Thing” and realized the problem was the coat zipper. She then came up with a design for a coat with a center panel that could be opened up so the straps can be fastened correctly against the child’s body and then the panel refastened so the coat would still keep the child warm.

Asking for a $100,000 investment with a 10% stake, she sold the idea of the ingeniously redesigned, patented coats which makes winter car seat use safer, easy, and struggle free for parents easily. What really appealed to the sharks was her sales which turned out to be $500,000 last year without any help or investors. Mark Cuban even applauded her product but said no as it wasn't his area.

Barbara loved the idea and gave her an offer of $100,000 for a 20% stake. But Daymond John jumped at the opportunity and offered $100,000 for a 20% stake along with 30% for licensing. While she tried to make a counter-offer of 15%, it tanked and she picked Daymond out of the two. Hard luck, Barbara. But is Daymond really better for Buckle Me Baby Coats than Barbara? What do you think?

Daymond tweeted: "It’s over for my fellow Sharks now! That’s a deal! Let’s go make it happen @bucklemebaby!! #SharkTank He also said, "I’ve seen that look in @Barbaracorcoran's eyes before….but I’m not giving up on this one." Meanwhile, Barbara tweeted, "The design of this coat is so clever!"

Fans were happy that Rizk went ahead with Daymond and felt that he is perfect for the business. "Baby car seats r such chore - and so important. @BuckleMeBaby will help! @TheSharkDaymond will help Dahlia soar -she’s got it!" one tweet read and another said, No shock to me. The clothing guy @TheSharkDaymond wins the DEAL!!!!! #SharkTank She got who she wanted." A third posted, "Congratulations to @TheSharkDaymond and @BuckleMeBaby! That deal better have a seat belt because it will take off! #SharkTank."

Others were amazed by her sales and the pitch. "2 patents AND Trademark. Nice," one wrote, adding, $15 landed, $90-120 retail. $500K in the last year. Impressive. 75% online & Amazon." Another posted, "$500K the last year alone is fabulous." A third chimed in, "Great idea for a coat that opens for a car seat harness BUT needs a lot of education to the public in order for them to care about the coat problem."
