Otis Millburn (Asa Butterfield), who has been feeling victimized about being the ping-pong ball between Maeve and Ola, decides to cheer himself up with a "small gathering". Since he is hosting, he asks his mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson) to "make herself scarce", hoping to avoid any embarrassing encounters between her and his peers.

Little does he know that he will be the one embarrassing himself at his party. He also steals Jean's journal to make sense of why Ola broke up with him since he had seen them talking.

Headmaster Groff (Alistair Petrie), who also suspects that Jean is behind Mrs. Groff's demand to get a divorce, sees Otis stashing the journal in his locker. Since he is now living in the school, you can almost see the wheels turning in his head about how he can get his hands on the journal.

Otis' party gives Dr. Jean Millburn the chance to have the rare night out. She goes out drinking with Mrs. Groff (Samantha Spiro) who is thrilled to be free of Headmaster Groff.

It is a rare moment on television to see two adult women bonding without any conflict, as they admit to each other that they both needed a female friend and had been lonely without one. Mrs. Groff, who has never had a night without "Michael" (Headmaster Groff) taking charge, is a bit unsure of herself in the beginning, wondering how and what to order.

But Jean eases her into how to be single and free again. Soon Mrs. Groff is sharing her fears about being alone and her sex fantasies, which in turn make Jean realize that she made a mistake by breaking up with Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt) and that she is missing him.

She tells Mrs. Groff that she has been independent so long that being in a relationship seemed as weird to her as Mrs. Groff felt being on her own. The two ladies end the night dancing riotously, both taking a break from the grind of duties they are used to.

Their friendship makes the viewer's heart ache for Aimee Gibbs (Aimee Lou Wood) who doesn't have any friends (including Maeve who had been too busy with her mother and kid sister) who can help her. No one notices how her assault has resulted in a severe case of PTSD. She is feeling unsafe everywhere, including in the arms of her boyfriend.

Fortunately, unlike Aimee, Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) has Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu), who tells his mums what is going on because she is scared he will self-harm again. Sometimes friends can be the one thing that will save you from yourself when all has gone to hell.

'Sex Education' Season 2 can be streamed on Netflix from January 17.
