Release date
Season 6 of 'Schitt's Creek' premieres on Pop TV on Tuesday, January 7, 2019, at 9/8c.
Plot
The Canadian sitcom follows the immensely wealthy Rose family — Johnny (Eugene Levy), Moira (Catherine O'Hara), David (Dan Levy), and Alexis (Annie Murphy) — after they lose their riches upon being defrauded by their business manager. With very little left to their disposal, the once-wealthy family is forced to rebuild their lives with one the only one asset they have left — a small town named Schitt's Creek, which they had bought for their son as a joke birthday gift back in 1991.
But there are other characters too who add to the value of 'Schitt's Creek'. As the Roses relocate to Schitt's Creek and try to adjust to life there, they meet new peculiar characters like the mayor of the town Roland Schitt (Chris Elliot) and his wife Jocelyn (Jenn Robertson), and the manager-turned-owner of the run-down motel Stevie (Emily Hampshire), who also becomes David's best friend.
Cast
Eugene Levy as Johnny Rose
As Johnny Rose, Eugene plays the role of the patriarch of the Rose family. Before he was cheated by his business manager, Johnny headed the video rental chain Rose Video. At first, Johnny makes desperate attempts to get his family out of Schitt's Creek but later works along with Stevie as the co-manager of the Rosebud Motel.
For his performance as Johnny, Eugene received wide acclaim and bagging four consecutive nominations for the Canadian Screen Award, winning in 2016 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role. Early this year, Eugene received the Primetime Emmy nomination for the role of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Catherine O'Hara as Moira Rose
Moira Rose is the eccentric soap opera star who was a hit once upon a time. She is Johnny's wife and the two share an endearing relationship. At first, Moira thinks of their time in Schitt's Creek as a temporary hassle, sure that they will be getting out sooner than later. But as time passes Moira becomes more involved with the town and the people of Schitt's Creek forming personal friendships with them.
Catherine O'Hara, for her performance of Moira, has won four consecutive Canadian Screen Awards, one ACTRA Award, one Canadian Comedy Award and one Television Critics Association nomination for Individual Achievement in Comedy and one Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy series.
Daniel Levy as David Rose
At first glance, you would think of David Rose as Johnny and Rose's spoilt adult child. At the beginning of the series, David is reeling with the shock of having lost all their family's wealth. But after his father Johnny, is the first one to adjust, even getting a job as a salesman at Blouse Barn. He later concentrates on his small business Rose Apothecary and his relationship with Patrick (Noah Reid).
One of the biggest reasons that David's character is so important is because he is the first openly pansexual character depicted on television. 'Schitt's Creek' has a complete absence of homophobia and the very nonchalant treatment the show gives sexuality has been a noteworthy feather in their hat.
Annie Murphy as Alexis Rose
You'd think of Alexis Rose as the spoiled socialite child of Johnny and Moira Rose. But Alexis is a peculiar character with a very strange past. Best known for her random scandalous stories from around the world, Alexis is David's sister. While at first, she spends time on her romantic relationships with Ted and Mutt (Tim Rozon), she later concentrates on studying and building her public relations business, Alexis Rose Communications.
Her work as Alexis won her nominations for three Canadian Screen Awards and one Gracie Award in 2019, which she won.
Creators
Created by Eugene and Dan Levy, 'Schitt's Creek' won two Dorian Awards and was nominated for a GLAAD Award for its representation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer characters.
Trailer
While there is no trailer released for Season 6 of 'Schitt's Creek', Pop TV has released a teaser. The very brief teaser shows the Rose family at their happiest best. Johnny (Eugene Levy), Moira (Catherine O'Hara), David (Dan Levy), and Alexis (Annie Murphy) are gearing up for David and Patrick's (Noah Reid) wedding. The very heartwarming teaser also shows a glimpse of Stevie (Emily Hampshire) and that is all the more reason to rejoice.
At the end of Season 5, Stevie and Patrick had successfully performed 'Cabaret' to a standing ovation. Shortly before that, Patrick had proposed to David and our hearts couldn't take it! At the same time, Alexis is getting ready for her six month trip to the Galapagos Islands, following her boyfriend Ted (Dustin Milligan), who had left for the islands in the last episode.
