'RuPaul's Drag Race' Finale: A quick look at Season 12's top 5 stand-out moments
As VH1-backed 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 12 draws to a close, we look back at some of the most memorable moments the series has aired over the weeks. We have condensed it to a top 5 list but there have been many more highlights this season.
Sherry Pie & catfishing
Two episodes in, the makers announced Sherry Pie was disqualified from being part of the finale (which is usually filmed once all the episodes have aired). He faced serious catfishing allegations and it had gotten to a point where several people came forward and spoke against him, which made for an airtight case. Sherry posed as a casting director online and tricked young and budding actors to perform sexual acts. To make matters worse, he even demanded that they film such scenes and send them to him.
Even though he apologized after the matter spiraled out of control, fans went ballistic on social media, with some even sending in death threats. One of them wrote: "Okay, so real talk, even if the catfishing and sexual manipulation allegations had not come out about Sherry Pie I still would not like him. His comedy is 100 years old, his makeup is awful, he is selfish, and I do not see a single shred of what Ru saw."
Gigi Goode & gender fluidity
Earlier last month, after she won a Snatch Game challenge, Gigi shared information that had fans wanting to love her more than before. Talking to her peers, Gigi revealed that she is gender fluid. There are days that make him feel manly, and there are times when she wants her feminine side to be up for people to see and appreciate. "I think I'm both and I'm neither," she added.
Rock M Sakura & her mother's meth addiction
Rock's tragic past had viewers in shock. While preparing for the Maxi Challenge, Rock opened up on why she has such a hard time assuming leadership roles. "A big thing while growing up was, my mother was addicted to meth. She was completely addicted to drugs. She took me aside a couple of times and said I'm addicted to drugs because of you. Because of you kids, I'm doing drugs," she said and added it's painful when you love people and you are responsible for their happiness but they tell you that they are in a dark place because of you.
Crystal Methyd's Bert and Ernie makeup
Crystal spiced up her Maxi Challenge by adding a good dose of glitter and makeup but that wasn't enough. Sure, she didn't win it, but the Bert and Ernie-inspired makeup had the fans' votes. Some were genuinely surprised that the judges didn't pick Crystal as the winner. "I hope I don’t sound ridiculous but I actually liked Crystal’s drag family look. It was on brand and it don’t get any closer than Ernie and Bert tbh #DragRace," a fan had shared.
RuPaul Andre Charles' reunion face mask
Host-mentor RuPaul found himself amid an intense online conversation that was sparked off following his appearance in the reunion episode, in which he wore a blue latex mask. The viewers were confused as to what purpose did it serve? It was neither creative or had any practical use. Some even called it a face bra, others thought it looked like a gimp mask, an accessory often used in BDSM activities.
Let's hope the 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 12 finale adds to this list. Catch it on VH1 on Friday.
