Golden Globes 2021: Rosamund Pike wins Best Actress for 'I Care A Lot', fans say 'Maria Bakalova got robbed'

Maria Bakalova for 'Borat', Kate Hudson for 'Music', Michelle Pfeiffer for 'French Exit', and Anya Taylor-Joy for 'Emma' also vied for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category

The 78th Golden Globe Awards kicked off with much fanfare on Sunday, February 28, 2021, with comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting the ceremony from two different locations, marking the first bi-coastal event in the history of the awards show. 

Fey hosted the ceremony from New York City's Rainbow Room while Poehler was present at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. All eyes were on the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category and the winner was Rosamund Pike for Netflix's dark comedy 'I Care A Lot'. The other nominations for the category included Maria Bakalova for 'Borat', Kate Hudson for 'Music', Michelle Pfeiffer for 'French Exit', and Anya Taylor-Joy for 'Emma'.

'100% the reason I liked the movie'

Fans were overjoyed. "Rosamund Pike had won the #GoldenGlobes best actress for a musical/comedy motion picture and she deserved it. God she was so evil in I Care A Lot," said a tweet, while another said, "I am #RosamundPike when she kicked the air while wearing those awesome Black boots. #GoldenGlobes". "Rosamund Pike's performance is like 100% the reason why I liked that movie. I want to see her star in a really good television series next," said a fan, noting that her performance made the movie what it is. "I laughed at the shot for shot remake of layer cake at the end. This movie would be borderline unwatchable if not for Rosamund Pike though.", said another, on the same lines. Others were impressed by her acknowledging the other nominees. "rosamund pike acknowledging and praising her fellow nominees was very cool girl of her <3", said a fan.

 

'Maria Bakalova got robbed'

Some fans were not happy, feeling that she did not deserve the win over Maria Bakalova. "I love Rosamund Pike, but this 2014 #girlboss performance did not not deserve the win over the absolutely hilarious Maria Bakalova #GoldenGlobes ," said a fan. "Best Actress - Musical or Comedy goes to Rosamund Pike. You have no idea how many times my autocorrect tried to change her name to Rosalind. Maria Bakalova got robbed. She had the breakout performance of 2020. #GoldenGlobes," said another.

Some commented on Pike's speech where she thanked America's corrupt legal and healthcare systems for helping make stories like this. "Rosamund pike thanked America's corrupt health care system for helping them make stories like this". "Jason Sudeikis and Rosamund Pike are great, terrific performers but seemingly can't improvise an acceptance speech to save their lives. #GoldenGlobes," said another fan.

The official 2021 Golden Globe Awards was telecasted on February 28 at 8 pm ET and the pre-show was streamed live from the official @GoldenGlobes Twitter account and on the website www.goldenglobes.com at 6.30 pm ET.
