'Real Housewives of Salt Lake City': Mary Cosby and Jen Shah lock horns over 'hospital smell' in pilot episode
Bravo's latest addition to the hit 'Real Housewives' franchise- 'Real Housewives of Salt Lake City' might have just premiered, but the housewives aren't wasting any time in serving us the drama we all have been craving for. The premiere episode introduced us to the fabulous housewives of Salt Lake City and gave us a peek into their dynamics with each other.
We were first introduced to housewife Jen Shah. The Hawaiian - Tongan descent housewife takes great pride in her ancestry and tries to utilize every opportunity to educate more about her rich culture and heritage. Shah's love for living larger than life was on full display after she decided to throw a birthday bash for her fellow housewife, Meredith Marks. Although the celebration was for Meredith, every element of the party was selected as per Jen's taste. From flying dancers all the way from Tonga to perform at her party, to a floral arrangement at the entrance displaying Shah Chalet, the housewife went all out to ensure that she hosted the best party, not just for Meredith but also herself.
Just like any other housewives' party, this party wasn't drama-free either. Shah invited her fellow housewife/ former friend, Mary Cosby to the party because Meredith included her name in the guest list. In separate green room interviews, both Mary and Jen get into their versions of why the two friends fell out. Mary explains that she had a strong repulsion to any smell that's associated with the hospital. One day, when she met up with Shah at a party, and the two ladies hugged, Mary felt that Shah smelt like a hospital. So, Mary confided this in one of their mutual friends. The mutual friend then went on to spill the beans to Shah, who was left feeling offended by Mary's words. Mary then points out how she still doesn't understand what upset Shah so much and declares that she always speaks her mind no matter what.
Shah, on the other hand, explains in her green room interview, why Mary's words left her hurt. She admits to meeting her aunt at a hospital prior to seeing Mary. Her aunt's legs needed to be amputated, so Shah was by her aunt's side. She also talks about how she considers her aunt as someone equivalent to her mother. So, when Mary said that she smelt like a hospital, Shah felt that her friend was being extremely insensitive and rude because she knew all about Shah's aunt's hospitalization.
The two ladies try to mend their differences at Shah's party, but end up hitting a wall, when Mary refuses to apologize for her thoughts and feelings, while Shah continues to feel slighted by Mary's words. We will just have to continue watching the series to see if the housewives manage to resolve their issues or it escalates into something worse.
