'Retaliation': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the Orlando Bloom film
It’s been a while since we saw Orlando Bloom’s magic on the screen. Fortunately, that will soon change with an upcoming movie called ‘Retaliation’.
Release date
‘Retaliation’ will release on-demand on July 24.
Plot
As per IMDb, ‘Retaliation’ deals with an adult victim of childhood sexual abuse confronting the horrors of his past. While this reveals little, the film’s trailer gives away a lot more. It shows that the film is specifically about child sexual abuse committed by the clergy.
The film was completed in 2017 and was even part of the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival roster, where it premiered. Then it was released under the title ‘Romans’.
Cast
Orlando Bloom as Malky
The 43-year-old British actor requires little introduction. Bloom is globally famous for his role as Legolas the elf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film series, as well as ‘The Hobbit’ film series, and also his performance as Will Turner in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film series.
His other notable roles include that of Paris in ‘Troy’, Balian de Ibelin in ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, and the Duke of Buckingham in ‘The Three Musketeers’.
Janet Montgomery as Emma
The 34-year-old British film and TV actor is perhaps most well-known for her role as Ames in the television series ‘Human Target’. Most recently, she has received acclaim for her role as Lauren Bloom on the television series ‘New Amsterdam’. In films, her notable titles include ‘The Hills Run Red’, ‘Black Swan’, ‘The Space Between Us’, and more.
Charlie Creed-Miles as Paul
The 48-year-old British actor and musician is best known for his roles in films like ‘100 Streets’, ‘Hereafter’, ‘King Arthur’, ‘The Fifth Element’ and more. On television, he’s worked in shows like ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Injustice’, ‘Criminal Justice’, and ‘Endeavour’ among others.

‘Retaliation’ has been directed by Ludwig Shammasian and Paul Shammasian. The film has been written by Geoff Thompson.
Trailer
The trailer for ‘Retaliation’ dropped on July 19. It begins with a statue of Jesus Christ, shaking under the vibrations of hammers of workers demolishing a church. Among the many workers is Bloom’s Malky.
As the trailer progresses, we see Malky as an angry man. He bangs his fist on the table as his mother tells him judging others is a sin. He beats several people up on several occasions. And finally, he stabs his own hand with a pair of scissors.
At one point in the trailer, there’s a conversation happening in the voiceover, a confessional between Malky and a priest. “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned,” Malky says during confession. “I have to hurt someone. I have to hurt someone severely.” When the priest asks, “What are you here for?” Malky’s response is bone-chilling. “Revenge,” says Malky.
The trailer presents the effect of a thriller as things steadily get darker. From the imagery, it is apparent that the child sexual abuse mentioned in the film’s description happened to Malky. And the abuser is unmistakably a clergyman. The trailer looks compelling and the film promises to be a powerful one.
