LONDON, ENGLAND: Disney+'s thrilling historical drama 'Renegade Nell' takes viewers to 18th-century England, where each episode develops with a gripping plot.
Written by award-winning screenwriter Sally Wainwright and produced by Jon Jennings and Stella Herz, 'Renegade Nell' follows the journey of Nell Jackson (Louisa Harland). Falsely accused of murder, Nell embarks on a daring quest to clear her name and defend her reputation.
In 'Renegade Nell' Episode 5, titled 'Excuse Me, I'm a Doctor,' Nell devises a bold scheme to free Charles Devereux (Frank Dillane) from incarceration. His arrest, stemming from the chaos at Widdicombe Manor, takes center stage in the riveting episode.
Nell Jackson disguises herself as doctor to enter Newgate Prison
As stated in previous episodes, Charles is wrongfully arrested under the guise of being the wanted highwayman, Isambard Tulley. Nell, who knew Charles had been caught while rescuing her, is determined to save him and devises a cunning plot to get him out of Newgate jail.
While sipping coffee with Rasselas (played by Enyi Okoronkwo), Nell finds herself interrupted by a jail guard entering the restaurant. He urgently seeks a doctor, revealing that a convict is attempting self-amputation with a bread knife to escape.
Seizing the moment, Nell disguises herself as a doctor and rushes to the scene. Upon examining the patient, she diagnoses him with typhus.
Using this leverage, she coerces the guards into disclosing information about other sick prisoners. To ensure their silence, she demands to see Charles in exchange for keeping their secret.
Charles Devereux refuses to comply with Nell Jackson's plan
Later, Nell pays a visit to Charles and is startled to find him in a big and open room, as opposed to her expectation that he would be imprisoned in a dark and cramped space like the one she saw below.
She swiftly makes up an explanation, sends the guard away, and begins her plan of informing him that she intends to free him. Nell instructs him to drink a fragmented spice medicine that will slow down his pulse and put him into a deep slumber, following which she will declare him dead and rescue him later.
Feeling worried about the danger, Charles decides not to go along with the plan. He tells Nell that one of his friends has hired the best lawyer in London, Sir Kit Appleby. They intend to prove in court that Charles is not Tulley and has been wrongly accused.
However, his aspirations for escape are thwarted when Lady Eularia Moggerhanger (Joely Richardson) notifies him that Sir Kit Appleby refuses to take on his case, which Nell also listens to.
Later, Nell exits the prison room, leaving Charles on his own to secure his freedom.
