'Hate hearing that s***': Here's why Drake won't be mentioning any ex girlfriends on future hits
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drake's future girlfriends won't be mentioned in his music, according to the Grammy-winning rapper. During a recent "Moody Conversations" interview with Lil Yachty, the rapper revealed that he had two regrets about his long career: shouting out older rappers and mentioning his ex-girlfriends in his songs.
“I hate hearing that s—t, I heard it the other night when we were at the club,” he said, talking about his song “Weston Road Flows” where he raps about retiring at age 35. “I think that, and sometimes when I’ve said girls’ names in songs, maybe those are the two things that I look back on and I’m like, ‘Maybe I could’ve done without, like, sh–ing on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life,'” the musician, 36, said.

'The lyrics are never with ill intent'
"The lyrics are never with ill intent," he said when an ex-girlfriend confronted him about it. "I had somebody tell me one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me, it’s the fact that you said it,'” he said. “‘You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the time, or you don’t know what my family knows or doesn’t know. And if you express any form of discontent for me and call me by name in a song, then all of a sudden I’m left to pick up the pieces of my own life that I’ve tried to build up for myself.'”
Drake has named many celebs in songs
Even though he claims he has done his "best to stop doing that," there are moments when he simply needs to express his emotions. Drake seems to be referencing songs like 2013's 'From Time' and 'Nothing Was the Same', where he mentions celebrities like Porsche, Summer, Bria, and Courtney.
Drake has also made fun of some of Hollywood's hottest stars, like Rihanna and SZA, on each of his seven studio albums. The rapper stated in his 2021 song "Mr Right Now" that he had a brief romance with the 'Kill Bill' vocalist. “Yeah, said she wanna f— to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08,” he rapped.
In "Diplomatic Immunity," released the same year, he made allusion to his romance with Jennifer Lopez, saying, "2010 was when I lost my halo/2017, I lost a J." On "In My Feelings," he also notoriously called out Keshia Chanté and a woman by the name of Kiki, who many presumed to be Kim Kardashian (she was eventually identified as K'yanna Barber..
