'Project Runway' Season 18 winner Geoffrey Mac's finale collection is probably what Billie Eilish would wear
Geoffrey Mac is the winner of 'Project Runway' Season 18 and a very well-deserved one. The New York boy has grown from strength to strength and evolved as a designer.
Throughout the season, he has been open to feedback and has consciously woven those into his style of fashion, which makes him even more worthy of the win. Geoffrey's finale collection — Purple Heart — was about survival and featured a range of oversized puffer jackets.
Even though it was not something innovative that came out of the designer's workroom (we have seen Rick Owens put out one of those a few years ago at a fashion week), it stood out from the rest and prompted judge Elaine Welteroth to say that it was a Billie Eilish style of fashion.
Geoffrey's works have always been very structured and futuristic. The silhouettes have never been extremely feminine which makes his garments all the more desirable.
However, it was not an easy journey for Geoffrey, who would often lose his calm and be found frazzled. One would think how a big guy with muscles like him manages to be stressed and anxious.
While at 'Project Runway,' Geoffrey wouldn't get enough exercise, which meant he had a lot of bottled energy that manifested itself in dramatic ways. However, he was able to calm himself once his work was sent off on the runway.
In the After Show chat with mentor Christian Siriano, Geoffrey said he intends to take a break, go to the beach and then begin work on his collection as he wishes to build a brand, establish his own label. That is not too much of a task for him given how he enjoys his time putting together a garment.
Meanwhile, there are fans who don't agree with the final decision of the judges and thought Geoffrey's puffer jackets and the overall collection weren't all that good.
"#ProjectRunway That big, black puffer coat looked like a tick," a fan said, while another wrote: "That black puffer jacket would take up a whole subway car. #ProjectRunway."
"Geoffrey's collection, with gigantic puffer coats and dresses with sleeves hanging all over the place, was 'chić and refined?' #projectrunway," another user tweeted. Geoffrey stole a win but Nancy Volpe-Beringer, Sergio Guadarrama and Victoria Cocieru gave him a tough fight.
