'Project Runway': Fans shed happy tears as Geoffrey Mac impresses Cyndi Lauper with his 1980's style outfit
This week's 'Project Runway' was nothing short of a trip to the 1980s. And with Cyndi Lauper as the guest, it was anyone's guess. The designers were grouped into two teams and tasked to create mini collections inspired from the era with a modern outlook merging punk and pop.
.Team one -- Geoffrey Mac, Brittany Allen, Nancy Volpe Beringer, Delvin McCray, Dayoung Kim -- was given 'chaos' as its theme, while team two - Sergio Guadarrama, Marquise Foster, Shavi Lewis, Melanie Trygg, Chelsey Carter, Victoria Cocieru -- had to work with 'stripes.'
Right from the word go, it was clear that team two was on the winning side - they were a confident bunch who knew their way around the fabrics and had a clear idea of what they were going for in terms of detailing and color palette. Whereas, team one had a hard time figuring out their basics - fabric, hues etc. While picking out their material for the clothes, the team was almost on a verge of breakdown with Brittany announcing that they were definitely going to be at the bottom.
But results were completely shocking, with judges -- Brandon Maxwell, Nina Garcia, Elaine Welteroth, and Cyndi -- picking team one over all else. They loved the cohesiveness in their final pieces and the attention to tailoring that was given in each of the outfits.
Even though everyone had their design skills on point, Geoffrey's was loved the most. Cyndi and Karlie agreed that they'd love to wear it. Brandon praised the New York-based couturier saying "there's a poetry to the way you can drape fabric." Elaine was glad Geoffrey was back in the game while Nina said the clothing looked expensive and refined, which is bonus points.
It was a bitter-sweet experience for Geoffrey to create something special for his idol (Cyndi), someone who guided and inspired him through songs during the tough phases of his childhood. When he started, his nerves were all over the place and Geoffrey really wanted to nail it or at least create something that would impact the judges, most importantly Cyndi. And that happened!
Geoffrey was picked as the most favorite designer of the week, which gives him immunity for the week after. Meanwhile, social media is super happy with the pick as most thought he deserved to win this round.
"This win meant a lot to Geoffrey. Happy tears! Melanie was kind of invisible, so not surprised to see her go home. #ProjectRunway," a fan wrote, while another tweeted: "I started to cry when Geoffrey started to cry when he won!!! Agh I love him!!! #ProjectRunway."
