'Project Runway' fans say Sergio should have been eliminated instead of Melanie: 'His look was worse'

Melanie's 1980's inspired outfit - a tube dress with a loose garment on top - didn't impress the judges.

'Project Runway' eliminations are always hard especially because everyone's talented, but people have their off days.

Melanie Trygg wasn't feeling the 1980s challenge as it was miles apart from her aesthetics. Her designs are simple and streamlined, supported by rich fabrics which were in stark contrast to the task at hand. And that's where she missed the mark and got eliminated.

The show and viewers haven't seen much of Melanie's works in the last few weeks, and when they finally do -- it turns out to be a flat one. At least that's what Karlie Kloss said while reviewing her creation. One could see she was not impressed at all.

Explaining her take on the outfit, Melanie said: "I'm obviously a minimalist designer so a lot of what I do is getting away from more is more. So this challenge for me was like really, deeply hard for me." She even went on to say that the challenges in the past weeks haven't pushed her enough. They weren't the kind where she could be free and put in all her creative efforts.

Melanie was confused about the 1980's fashion and didn't know how to mix it with her taste and style. Cyndi Lauper, however, criticized the designer saying she shouldn't be blaming the era. "The garment that you have on top of your tube dress, it's not a solid garment. It has no structure. And therefore, everything is swinging all over the place. It's almost like you are in a carwash," the singer commented.

Meanwhile, viewers think Melanie should have stayed and Sergio Guadarrama been shown the doors, simply because of how arrogant he has become. When Cyndi critiqued his outfit, Sergio was quick to reply that her likes and dislikes aren't his problems.

"#ProjectRunway Sergio has pissed me off since the minute he said he was better than Christian. Honestly Melanie deserved to stay, her look was 10 times better than Sergio's," a user tweeted. "They kept Sergio over Melanie because he is an entertaining douchebag but his look was definitely worse #ProjectRunway," another wrote. "#ProjectRunway Get's It Wrong Tonight By Sending Melanie Home Cuz The Worst Look Was Sergio," a fan expressed. "Melanie didn’t deserve that. Sergio sent a model down the runway with a shower curtain sewed to her back. #ProjectRunway," a viewer posted.
