Spoilers ahead for season 1 episode 7 'Q&A' of 'Prodigal Son'

At the end of episode 7 'Q&A' of 'Prodigal Son', it is made clear that it was Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen) who had planned the entire lockdown in Claremont Psychiatric Facility at the time that Ainsley (Halston Sage) was interviewing him. At first, it looks like things have gone awfully wrong, yet ever so conveniently worked out in the favor of The Surgeon.

As it turns out, there might be a reason after all in The Surgeon mentioning Ainsley and the interview in the group therapy - perhaps to instigate Tevin (Matthew Maher) to spin out of control. The Surgeon's guard David (Esau Pritchett) tells this to Malcolm (Tom Payne) after Tevin's capture. He confessed that the lockdown was all a part of The Surgeon's plan. As a result of this, The Surgeon is placed in solitary confinement and Malcolm won't get to speak to his father for a long time.

Throughout the episode, Malcolm is trying to prove that the Junkyard Killer has some connection with his serial killer father - it is no coincidence that the station wagon turns out to be in the same spot as the next serial killer's victims. But Gil (Lou Diamond Phillips) doesn't pay heed. However, by the end of the episode, even he is convinced that these two serial killers are linked in one way or the other.

As Jessica (Bellamy Young) and Malcolm are sipping tea, they hear a telephone ring in the basement - his father's old office. Jessica can't seem to understand what's going on because not only is his office brick-walled but the telephone is disconnected as well.

When Malcolm answers the call, a man says that he is an old friend of his father. He says that it was good to see Malcolm in the junkyard (remember someone shot at him at the beginning of the episode when he is in the junkyard) after such a long time. Malcolm asks him how he knows who he is and the man says a camping trip - which means that they had company on the traumatic boys' weekend that his father and he went to.

In the upcoming episode, as the NYPD digs into the “Junkyard Killer” case, Malcolm realizes the main suspect may have had a connection to his father. As news regarding this serial killer spreads, Ainsley itches to be the first one on the case, while Jessica panics, fearing she may never be able to leave the past behind.

Who is this man? Could he be a protege of The Surgeon? Or is he an accomplice?

'Prodigal Son' airs on Mondays at 9 pm ET/PT on Fox.
