Plot:
'Press' is a show about people who work in two rival newspapers that produce two different kinds of news. The Post headed by George Emmerson with Ben Chaplin as editor Duncan Allen concentrates solely on producing entertaining news that looks attractive.
Then we have The Herald which has Charlotte Riley play the role of news editor Holly Evans. Holly is dead set on telling stories that are true despite not being very entertaining. The journalists, designers, photographers and every other person connected to these organizations struggle and the six episodes portray exactly this.
Cast:
'Press' sees David Suchet, well-known for the portrayal of Poirot, play the Chairman and CEO of Worldwide News George Emmerson, which owns The Post in the show.
Then we have 'Peaky Blinders' star Charlotte Riley play the role of news editor of The Herald, Holly Evans, who is passionate about being a journalist out to tell the world the truth. When in competition with other newspaper organizations, she is bullish about the kind of news person she is and is ready to go head to head with the Post.
Ben Chaplin will play the role of The Post's Editor, Duncan Allen, who thinks only about the next best way to keep readers engaged. He pushes his journalists to come up with creative ideas and fun things that can entertain people while he ignores his family because to him, the news is more important than anything else.
The show will also have Ellie Kendrick, Brendan Cowell, Priyanga Burford, Shane Zaza, Paapa Essiedu and Al Weaver play lead roles in the six-episodes.
Creator:
'Press' was created by Mike Bartlett, a playwright-turned-screenwriter popular for writing 'Doctor Foster', a marital saga. The show is directed by Tom Vaughan who has worked with Bartlett on 'Doctor Foster', 'Victoria', 'The Royals' and 'Endeavour'.
Trailer:
The trailer of the show sees the two rival papers, who produce different kinds of news, clash with each other. One of them wants to tell the truth, while the other is dead set on entertaining viewers, giving them news that will keep audiences hooked and interested with creative ideas, the best formats and mostly concentrates on the packaging rather than the content.
