'Power' Season 6 Episode 5: Tariq proves to be Ghost's blood through and through, and it might take down the same rabbit hole as his father

Ghost and Tariq have always had a complicated relationship, but season 6 of 'Power' has proved that the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree

The ongoing final season of 'Power' has been particularly unkind to Ghost (Omari Hardwick), with everyone he cares about turning against him. The most stinging indifference he faces probably is the one directed towards him by his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), who despite his disdain for his father seems to be going down the same path as him.

This season we saw him starting his own venture, selling drugs with the help of his roommate aka Tommy (Joseph Sikora) 2.0 and Effie (Alix Lapri) aka Tasha (Naturi Naughton) 2.0. His business model is very similar to that of his father, who is hellbent on retiring, and he is ambitious to the point of being loyal to only his cause - just like his father. In the previously aired season 6 episode 4 of the Starz show, we saw him pulling a fast one over the one person he knows will stand by him through thick and thin - Tommy. He has entered into business with Vincent (Joe Perrino) and in an attempt to impress him he steals pills for sales from right under Tommy's nose, and when his Godfather asks him where he got it from, he lies and says that he got them from the late Kanan (50 Cent).

It is evident that Tommy's downfall is going to be because of a combination of his two soft spots - LaKeisha (Lala Anthony) and Tariq. Vincent is obviously infuriated at being kept in the dark about Tariq not only being Tommy's Godson, and more importantly, Ghost's son. Tariq has convinced him to give him a chance to prove that neither of these will be a hindrance in their business association, and he will definitely go to great lengths to prove it.

He is turning into Ghost right in front of our eyes, and even he is acknowledging it at this point. In the upcoming episode he will come through with Vincent's demands, but he is sure going down a rabbit hole he will find difficult to climb out of. In the promo for 'King's Gambit,' we see Ghost confronting his son about his business, and telling him that he turned to drugs because he had no other option, but whatever Tariq's reason is, isn't good enough for his chosen career.

In response to father's warning, Tariq says, "Selling drugs didn't ruin your life, Ghost. Selling drugs got you nice place... I'm just like you. How could you expect me to be any different?" Our prediction is that the confrontation between Ghost and Tariq will be highlight of 'King's Gambit,' so don't forget to watch it when it airs on Sunday, September 22, on Starz.
