'Power Book II: Ghost' Episode 3 Review: What hell will Tariq and Monet's 'arrangement' unleash?
To hide one lie, you've to keep telling another and that's what Tasha St Patrick is learning on 'Power Book II: Ghost'. Determined to protect her son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr) from being caught, yet trying to prove that she isn't the queenpin in all the drugs madness, Tasha has stretched herself a little too thin lately. She's still throwing Tommy Egan, Ghost's close friend under the bus, and boy, if he comes for her to extract his pound of flesh, there's no knowing what hell will be unleashed.
The latest episode of 'Power Book: Ghost' kept up to its tradition of peculiar twists and turns. Lies are continuing to be told, secrets are being kept, and of course, and in the middle of all this, a new deal is going to be struck between two unlikely parties. Tasha faces a different sort of hell in every episode and this time, she is put on a mock trial. Her lawyers try to make her 'look innocent', but they see that she's stumbling in her story, as she's on the stand. Ex-lawyer Tameika makes a triumphant return as she practically roasts Tasha at the trial, leading her to fumble with words and gasp with the gaping holes in her whole 'I-killed-Ghost' story. Tasha's testimony is downright weak, everyone knows it---it remains to be seen for how long she can hold on to her sordid tale, as she's already showing signs of cracking. As her lawyer Davis says, the truth doesn't matter, it's what you sell the jury that matters....just what you need to hear in today's times, isn't that right?
Meanwhile, Tariq is up to a lot of things in college, apart from temporarily stumping his professors with answers on Socrates. Obviously, while keeping up good grades in college is what's on his mind? He knows how to play it smooth and decides to make an arrangement of sorts with Monet (Mary J Bilge). He knows her weakness: And that's her son, Zeke. He uses it well to his advantage. He knows that she needs him, just as much as he needs her. Tariq is getting more intense with each episode, even if fans find him rather unnerving. The college student as well as haunted son trying to save his mother and Michael Rainey Jr brings the perfect amount of gravitas to his character. Tariq is brilliantly dangerous and intense and there's no way of knowing what he will do next.
And then there's Jabari who decides to have sex with his student in the room right next to Carrie. Even if he wasn't her ex, anyone would be traumatized for life.
'Power Book II :Ghost' airs on StarZ, Sundays at 8 pm.
