Such was the success of James Gunn's TV debut as writer and director in 'Peacemaker' that a second season of the explosive DCEU series was inevitable. In what comes as good news for fans, the 'Peacemaker' is confirmed for Season 2. Gunn will write and direct all of the episodes in Season 2, with John Cena set to reprise the role of Christopher Smith/Peacemaker. The actor took to Twitter following the announcement.

"Learning about and eventually becoming #PEACEMAKER was an exercise in exploring the fun and absolutely genius mind of @JamesGunn. It's been a privilege to work on this show and with the cast, crew and @hbomax team. Elated to say we’ll be back to create more peace for Season 2!" Cena tweeted following the announcement," he tweeted. Now that there is a new chapter, here's what we know so far.

When will 'Peacemaker' Season 2 release?

Gunn started writing the scripts for 'Peacemaker' as soon as he wrapped up 'The Suicide Squad' (2021). This would mean that the latest series could possibly debut in the second half of 2022 or early 2023. We can also assume that season 2 will be another eight-episode affair.

What will 'Peacemaker' Season 2 be all about?

Apart from the stunning cameo of the members of the Justice League, or at least four of them — Superman, the Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman, 'Peacemaker' ended with Cena's Chris Smith killing the cow, but also rescuing Goff the butterfly as shown in the final minutes of the episode. The rest of the team is alive and well with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and Adrian Chase/Vigilante recovering from their injuries. Leota Adebayo is reunited with her wife and John Economos goes back to working at Belle Reeve prison.

No details about Season 2 are out yet, so we can expect a new mission for the ARGUS members. It also remains to be seen if Peacemaker joins the Justice League considering there was an appearance. What we can expect is Amanda Waller gunning for revenge after her Task Force X secret is now out in the open.

Cast

Expect all the major characters to return. Cena will reprise his role as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, and so does Steve Agee as John Economos, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith (He died, but can be seen in flashbacks and as a character in Smith's head). Jennifer Holland as Agent Emilia Harcourt and Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante will almost certainly return.

Showrunner/Director

Gunn will return as writer and director.
