SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: Parting Stone, a Santa Fe company, has been featured in the long-running ABC TV show 'Shark Tank' on April 7. Justin Crowe, the founder and CEO, stood before the Sharks to seek financing, but more importantly, to advertise his idea and receive business advice from the Sharks.

What is Parting Stone?

Grieving the death of a loved one may be a difficult and emotional journey. In the form of ashes, traditional cremation can leave families with an unpleasant and unapproachable reminder of their grief. Parting Stone, a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), is changing the way people remember and adore their departed loved ones by providing a novel alternative to traditional ash — solidified remains. Parting Stone has created a one-of-a-kind procedure for transforming 100% of a person's or pet's cremated remains into a collection of 40-80+ smooth stones, depending on the volume of ashes donated. These stones give a practical, reassuring, and aesthetically beautiful method for families to keep their loved ones' memories alive. Instead of storing and forgetting ashes, solidified remains can be divided among family members and presented in a way that is meaningful to them.

The science behind the business

There are five steps to converting ashes into stones:

Collection: Parting Stone delivers a collection kit to collect the cremated ashes.

Purification: The ashes are purified to eliminate impurities such as implants and staples.

Forming: Purified ash is transformed into a clay-like substance from which the stones are created.

Solidification: The ashes are fired in a kiln and transformed into solid stones.

Return to Home: The polished, solidified remains are returned to the family.

Each solidified remnant collection is unique, with natural variances in shape, texture, and color. The stones are extremely durable, comparable to the hardness of tooth enamel or turquoise, and will not degrade or dissolve over time.

New method to recall and treasure

Parting Stone helps families cope with loss by giving a tactile and long-lasting form of remembrance. This novel method enables family members to communicate and remember their loved ones in a meaningful and intimate way. Solidified remains, like conventional ashes, can be spread, allowing families the choice to make a lasting monument to their loved ones.

Pets' solidified remains

Parting Stone also offers pet solidification services, including cats and dogs, in addition to human remains. The amount of stones produced varies according to the volume of remains, with each collection representing the pet's unique traits. This beautiful and soothing alternative to traditional pet ashes allows families to honor and preserve the memories of their cherished animals.

Parting Stone is at the vanguard of a death care movement that aims to reimagine established practices and to provide new, creative methods for families to grieve and remember their loved ones. Operating with professionalism, ethics, originality, and curiosity, a team of creatives are devoted to creating constructive solutions. We can look forward to a future in which death and the dying are treated with compassion and creativity, by delivering solidified remains as an alternative to traditional ashes.

Who is the founder of Parting Stone?

Parting Stone's founder and CEO is Justin. He sees himself as a seasoned 'designer on a mission to bring richness to the sterile digital age.'

Alfred University awarded him his degree. He began his work as the founder and manager of the non-profit student art gallery, The Attic Student Art Gallery. Then he worked as an art instructor at Hudson Community Education & Recreation for a short time. He later worked as an assistant pyrotechnician at Pyrotecnico. In 2011, he taught pottery skills to pupils in the context of Mesopotamian culture. In 2013, he was the managing editor of the blog Viral Swarm.

His first company was launched in 2011. Dizbe.com was a fine art marketplace similar to Etsy. In 2013, he joined the Design Faves team as a Managing Editor. He worked with the CFile Foundation, an educational resource for ceramic art, design, architecture, and technology, for roughly two years.

He established Chronicle Cremation Designs in 2016. Furthermore, he eventually changed the name to Parting Stone. Justin has been considering the business strategy since the death of his grandfather in 2014. He is presently a Managing Editor at ConnectingDirectors.com.

What is the cost and where to get Parting Stone services?

Parting Stone provides services for both people and pets on their website. Human ashes will produce 40-80" stones and will cost $2495. There are pet ashes for both cats and dogs. Dog ashes produce 5-40" stones for $995. You'll spend $795 for 5-10" stones for cats. If you do not want the stones, the firm will restore your cremated ashes to ash at no cost. Customer reviews show that family members connect with the stones more than an urn full of ashes.

The product has received numerous positive feedback from customers. One of the reviews on the website reads, "It’s more sentimental to have an object than it is to have ashes. In the stone form, it’s an easier way to carry somebody with you without so much weight and stigma."

Where is Parting Stone now?

From cremated ashes, Parting Stone creates polished rounded stones. In the United States, the firm has attracted 600 funeral establishments. Since Justin started the firm in 2019, Parting Stone has secured $3.5 million in funding and is currently cooperating with a prominent funeral services provider in Australia. The New Mexico Angels and the Arrowhead Center at New Mexico State University are among the investors.

Parting Stone collaborated with material scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory to make solidified remains, which can be touched and held, to help provide a more pleasant experience for mourning families. They have now assisted 5,000 families.

Throughout their journey, Parting Stone has received tremendous support and recognition from customers and industry leaders. The company's commitment to rethinking the death care experience, as well as its revolutionary technique for hardening ashes, has distinguished it in the area.
