Spoilers for 'Yonder' Episode 4

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a world where streaming content dominates almost all of our screens, there's nothing that cannot be achieved. From fantasy to comedy, streaming services offer it all. And as the world becomes more connected, content from another part of the world like 'In the Dark' and the recently released 'Squid Game' are doing well with audiences. Following this theory, Paramount+ will release its Korean dramas, including 'Signal' and 'Yonder.'

Paramount+ has produced musical shows such as 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' and the Western drama 'Yellowstone.' And the upcoming 'Yonder' will be a new avenue for the streaming platform. 'Yonder' stars Shin Ha-kyun as Kim Jae-hyun and Han Ji-min as Cha Yi-hoo. ' It is a sci-fi fantasy series that tells the story of a virtual world called 'Yonder,' where a dead person's memories can be stored and interacted with. Throughout the series we could see the dark reality of technology, and in Episode 4 we witnessed the harsh reality of people who prefer the illusion to reality by making a hard decision.

The desperation

Episode 4 is titled 'Beyond the Memories' and highlights the boundary between illusion and reality. This is also the first episode of the series that explains the concept of 'Yonder,' a world where you can meet with the memories of the dead. In this episode, we experienced the dark reality of people's choices. Peach, the young girl who lost her father when she was very young, voluntarily sacrifices herself in this episode just because her father invited her to spend time with her. Since she had no family when she was growing up, Peach decided to transfer her memories to the virtual world and kill herself. At that point, she did not care about anything and just wanted to be with her father, who was just within reach. Dr K, who designed the virtual world 'Yonder", uses this desperation of the bereaved to prevent her from leaving the real world altogether and finding her way in the virtual world.

Choosing virtual over reality

Since Dr K promotes the world of 'Yonder' as a heaven without problems, inconveniences or other consequences, he causes people in the real world to simply leave their world with all the problems and stay in a false reality where they can spend all their time happily with their loved ones. This concept of 'Yonder' increases the suicide rate in the city, as all people look forward to entering the world of their dreams.

This leads to all of Peach's support group friends dying one by one as well. Although Jae-hyun does not approve of the concept of 'Yonder' at all, he realizes that his wife has designed a detailed version of life after Earth, so she has decided to transfer her memories. After seeing all the suicide incidents, Hae-hyun visits his wife Yi-hoo and tells her that he is afraid of losing his memories of her. Yi-hoo replies that he does not remember his feelings, while she remembers them all. This makes him fear that he would lose all the precious memories of his wife, so he thinks about taking the road to 'Yonder' as well. Hae-hyun also gives in and decides to go to the virtual world instead of reality.
