In an era of endless high-budget crime dramas and thrillers, one show that manages to stand out is Netflix’s blue-tinted series ‘Ozark’. Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, ‘Ozark’ follows the Byrde family that has to relocate from Chicago after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong. Marty Byrde, played by the spectacular Jason Bateman, to make amends to a Mexican drug cartel, sets up a bigger laundering operation in the Ozarks.

The trailer of season three of the show that dropped on Thursday, March 5, makes one thing very clear: life isn’t getting any easier for the Byrde family, which, apart from existential threats from local criminals and a Mexican cartel, has to deal with internal conflicts that never seem to end.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis for season 3, “It's six months later, the casino is up and running, but Marty and Wendy are fighting for control of the family's destiny. Marty preaches keeping the status quo. Aided by an alliance with Helen and drug cartel leader Omar Navarro, Wendy plots for expansion. But when Wendy's brother Ben comes into town, everyone's lives are thrown into chaos.”

The trailer begins with Wendy Byrde’s (Laura Linney) voiceover, saying, “We moved here to start over. And It’s been hard… Sometimes, if you don’t move forward, you die,” as we see Wendy pulling a gun on Marty.

We see in the trailer that while Wendy tries to expand the casino business, Marty attempts to bribe Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner), a local criminal employed by him, to keep shut about what’s really going on. “So you’re moving money in the new casino, and you’re asking me not to tell your wife?” Ruth asks Marty. “I’m not your f**king marriage counselor.”

And speaking of marriage counseling, there’s some of that as well. We see Wendy and Marty unsuccessfully try to reconcile their differences during a counseling session, where Marty, in the most Walter White from ‘Breaking Bad’ manner (many have compared the two shows and there are remarkable similarities in themes), says, “I was trying to protect our family.” Wendy, unlike Skyler White, calls out his pretense, and says, “That is such a tired, tired excuse.”

If the trailer is anything to go by (and the past two seasons), the upcoming season of this crime drama will surely be exciting! ‘Ozark’ season 3 hits Netflix March 27.
