'A sign of weakness': Outrage after Twitter bans users from promoting other social media platforms
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: From mass layoffs to exposing the high level execs, Elon Musk has been hard at work. In a recent development, Twitter Support has clarified that it will not let users promote their accounts on other major platforms, essentially banning "free promotion," for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Donald Trump's Truth Social, Nostr, and more. Moreover, third-party link aggregators like linktr.ee and lnk.bio were also banned. For users who will try to bend the rules by spelling out 'dot' and sharing screenshots of their handles on prohibited platforms will be removed.
The blue bird has announced yet another major chance ever since the billionaire tech mogul took over.Twitter Support wrote in a tweet, "We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter." Another tweet followed in the thread, "Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post." The thread continued, "We still allow cross-posting content from any social media platform. Posting links or usernames to social media platforms not listed above are also not in violation of this policy."

Twitter users upset over new policy
One angry user tweeted, "And what next ? YouTube ? Personal websites ? Do you realize that people often use several social networks ? Ultimately, who are you penalizing there, your competitors or your customers ?" Another said, "Twitter disallowing the free promotion of some social media platforms isn't pleasing; This change will mostly affect content creators & discourage a lot of Twitterers. Elon should be improving the platform but some of the new policies are ru!ning users experience. Read y'all..."

One dissatisfied user tweeted, "Nice to note that ALL your competitors seem to allow, if not encourage, cross promotion. Fear of free market competition is a sign of weakness and, perhaps, despair." Another user tweeted, "Can't wait for accounts that weren't created solely for promoting other platforms to get banned. Also gj twitter, this is great free promotion for those platforms you don't want to get free promotion. So many dumb decisions after dumb decisions."

A user tweeted, "by banning the free promotion of other social media platform accounts, twitter has actually promoted other social media platforms. I’m currently making accounts on all competitors, especially the decentralized protocols." Another user wrote, "non-verified content suppressed, mass layoffs, no more Twitter Moments, Twitter Spaces turned off to censor anti-Musk discourse, cross-platform promotion banned twitter is thriving with all this free speech"
