Twitter's ex-safety head Yoel Roth flees home following threats amid release of Elon Musk’s 'Twitter Files'
An individual with knowledge of the situation informed CNN that Twitter's former head of trust and safety has left his house owing to an increase in threats as a result of Elon Musk's campaign of criticism against him. Yoel Roth, who came under scrutiny from Twitter’s new owner has been lamented as a pedophile on the social media platform.
Since the so-called Twitter Files or internal Twitter communications that new owner Musk has released through journalists like Matt Taibbi and Bari Weiss were made public, Roth who left the social media company in November has been the target of a flurry of attacks and threats of violence. Roth's job required him to handle delicate situations such as the account suspension of then-President Donald Trump in 2021. On Monday, December 12 Weiss shared a series of pictures allegedly depicting internal Twitter correspondence in which Roth and others debated whether to block Trump's account, with some staffers wondering whether the former president's remarks broke any rules. Although Roth had first received Musk's public support, this rapidly altered once Roth left the firm.

Following the publication of the Twitter Files, Roth has now received criticism and threats. Things, however, took a nasty turn over the weekend when Musk seemed to support a tweet that falsely accused Roth of supporting pedophilia, a cliché frequently employed by conspiracy theorists to disparage individuals online. Threats on the former Twitter employee increased dramatically after Musk started spreading the pedophilia conspiracy idea, a source with knowledge of Roth's situation told CNN. The public's attention has been drawn to Roth previously. Later discovered and used to bolster the claim that Roth and Twitter were prejudiced against then-President Trump, the 2016 and 2017 tweets Roth made were disparaging of the president and his supporters.
On Election Day 2016, Roth tweeted the following, among other things: “I’m just saying, we fly over those states that voted for a racist tangerine for a reason.” Twitter at the time defended Roth, saying, “No one person at Twitter is responsible for our policies or enforcement actions, and it’s unfortunate to see individual employees targeted for company decisions.” Musk was questioned about Roth's previous statements in October while Roth was still employed by Twitter. “We’ve all made some questionable tweets, me more than most, but I want to be clear that I support Yoel. My sense is that he has high integrity, and we are all entitled to our political beliefs,” Musk tweeted in response.
