5 shows so good, you just can’t miss watching them this week: From ‘Knight of Seven Kingdoms’ to ‘The Beauty’
For all those bemoaning the lack of good shows to watch on television, the first month of the year has great news in store. Several new shows, including debut season premieres and renewals, are making their mark on platforms such as ITVX and Netflix. From the new show that brings Westeros back to the television screens to a new crime drama from celebrated filmmaker Ryan Murphy, here are our top five picks for TV shows that you absolutely can't miss this month.
1) 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'
Starting the list with this highly anticipated 'Game of Thrones' prequel show, 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', which takes place a hundred years before the events of the flagship HBO show. Peter Claffey leads as Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall, who is a freshly minted knight with an albeit immature but brave disposition. Alongside Dunk is his immensely witty sidekick and squire, Egg, played by Dexter Soll Ansell. Also, the first episode has plenty of 'GoT' Easter eggs. The show is available for streaming on HBO Max and Sky Atlantic beginning January 19.
2) 'Winterwatch'
The 2026 edition of this popular BBC documentary series is just around the corner. It is poised to transport viewers to the snow-capped base of the show and is located at the Mount Stewart estate on Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. The key attractions of this series are the intriguing tales of the British winter and wildlife, coupled with the stories of locals surviving to the best of their ability in a world dominated by climate change. 'Winterwatch' drops on BBC Two on January 20, according to Good Housekeeping.
3) 'Steal'
An ordinary workday for Sophie Turner's Zara turns into a spiralling disaster when a heist crew targets the pension investment firm she works at. 'Steal' is a high-octane crime drama starring Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as DCI Rhys. While Zara and Luke deal with the emergent situation as best as they can, Rhys is confronted with his troubles as a relapsed gambling addict and must fight his own demons before apprehending the criminals. The show will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting Wednesday, January 21.
4) 'The Beauty'
When a string of supermodels starts dying in mysterious circumstances and in gory ways, FBI Agents Jordan Bennett and Cooper Madsen, played by Rebecca Hall and Evan Peters, are promptly dispatched to Paris to get to the root of the mystery. We don't mean to spoil it for the audience. Still, when Madsen and Bennett begin investigating the murders, they are drawn towards a sexually transmitted virus that gives people the allure of physical perfection while at the same time causing serious side effects. This Ryan Murphy show will debut on Disney+ on Thursday, January 22.
5) 'After The Flood'
Lastly, the second season of 'After the Flood', which premiered on Sunday, January 18, on ITV1 and ITVZ, brings back Sophie Rundle as detective Jo Marshall. The sophomore season of the show once again pits Marshall against a devastating fire and a flood. To add to her worries, there's the case of an unidentified body turning up at the wrong place at the wrong time.
