NewJeans releases 'Cookie' track with sexual lyrics, fans ask 'aren't they minors?'

The executive director of NewJeans, Min Hee-jin, is already under fire for sexualizing minors, including 14-18 years old NewJeans members

Over the last few weeks, a lot of chatter has surrounded the new HYBE girl group NewJeans who made their debut with 'Cookie' on August 1. The group was announced under a HYBE subsidiary label, ADOR (All Doors One Room), with their pre-debut single, 'Attention'. The five-member girl group then released their second single, 'Hype Boy' which was loved by fans all around the world. Soon after the release of their second single, NewJeans started getting a lot of traction online.

As soon as that happened, HYBE as well as NewJeans' executive director Min Hee-jin was under fire for her past pedophilic portrayal of idols. The public opinion was that before joining HYBE Labels as their Chief Brand Office (CBO), Min Hee-jin was associated with the label SM Entertainment and groups/artists under the label. The accusations claimed that Min Hee-jin used the idols to sell the pedophilic concepts where minors were being sexualized. It seems like the new single from NewJeans titled 'Cookie' is proof of just that and fans are unhappy with it.

Fans analyze the lyrics for NewJeans' 'Cookie'

NewJeans' debut single, 'Cookie', was released on August 1 and just as soon as it was released, fans started drawing attention to the lyrics the song contained. The new single is about the girls inviting people to "look at their cookie" which has fans pointing out how the songs are extremely sexual which is insane considering the members range between 14 to 18 years old. This, however, is not the first time Min Hee-jin has been under fire for her concepts.

Fans started putting evidence together of her past actions proving that the childish fantasy concepts had been an ongoing trend with Min Hee-jin. This is also not the first time HYBE has been accused of sexualizing minors when only recently the label was under fire for the concept photos with whichc Le Sserafim members were introduced.

Fans are now sharing their displeasure with the obscene lyrics in NewJeans' single as one fan said, "The lyrics to cookie by newjeans? “look at my cookie come and take a lookie” “you want it dont you” “i wanna see you eat it” “eat my cookie” THESE ARE 04-08 LINERS?? MIN HEEJIN ITS OVER FOR YOU I FEAR. IT REALLY IS…" One more fan said, "People trivializing the meaning of the song into about baking literal cookies as if anyone would make a song about baking cookies with lyrics like "look at my cookie" "i wanna see you taste it" please be serious."

'Yeah sorry the lyrics are just not it'

More fans are now sharing their displeasure with minors being presented with sexualized concepts in K-pop. One fans called out people defending the girl group saying, "Y’all taking people’s criticism on cookie’s lyrics as an attack on newjeans, y’all have it twisted. it’s CONCERN FOR THESE GIRLS. whoever approved of the lyrics and allowed them to sing is disgusting. people are worried, rightfully so esp after the accusations against their CEO."

One fan said, "The lyrics for cookie are so bad my f**king god." One fan said, "Watching people defend the cookie lyrics thing one way or the other but ONLY pick out things that fit their narrative is so entertaining." One fan said, "Let us all, as a society, pretend that NewJeans' Cookie does not exist. Those lyrics are wild for such a young group. The release order from Attention, Hybe Boy to Hurt was already perfect." One more fan said, "Just listened tl cookie by newjeans and its good but those lyrics... arent they minors wth."

Another fan said, "Yeah sorry the cookie lyrics are just not it, idc what angle you look at it." One more fan said, "The cookie choreo for new jeans looks pretty cute and age appropriate but the lyrics are another story, you can't tell me you don't see the innuendos no matter what "translation" you look at."
