LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Tom Sturridge starring 'The Sandman' series' new episodes which would have been the second part of the series will not be called the second season of the popular fantasy drama. After months of speculation, Netflix finally renewed 'The Sandman' for a new batch of episodes earlier this fall. The series became a smash hit after it was released on the streaming giant on August 5, 2022. The DC character, Dream/Morpheus played by Sturridge was loved by fans all over the globe.

When 'The Sandman' announced it was being renewed for a second season, you may have noticed that they didn't actually call it season 2. They referred to it as "a continuation of 'The Sandman' world," not clarifying the number of episodes or exactly how much of the source material would be covered on Netflix. For most adaptations, this would be an easy question, but because 'The Sandman' comics are split into volumes of varying length and structure, there are a lot of different approaches the show can take but one never knows.

As per a new Variety article, Netflix’s head of UCAN scripted TV Peter Friedlander hinted that the streamer has considered releasing future episodes of 'The Sandman' in batches, similar to the approach to the last season of 'Stranger Things'. Friedlander said, "There are decisions that haven't been made, but we are considering batching approaches." Furthermore, "Everything's on the table when it comes to Sandman. It's an innovative show," he added.

"The Sandman always follows his own path. I do really believe that," Friedlander added. "The show, I think, was so popular because it was such a discovery and it was such an invention. That's what we're trying to honor as we continue to tell this story, and it shouldn't follow any path other than its own. And I genuinely believe that, and I want to help tell the story in that way with Neil and Allan, and protect the storytelling so it's the best experience it can be. And so part of that is also just keeping it secret till we know more!" he further added.

Regardless, the series has received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise going toward the casting, production design, costumes, faithfulness to its source material, visual effects, and performances. There are no further details on when the second part will start filming or when it will release.
