'Skin Decision: Before and After': Ex-model Marla Hanson gains confidence after facing a brutal razor attack
It was 1986, when Marla Hanson, a young upcoming model in New York was just beginning to carve a niche for herself in the glamourous modeling world. Just as her career began taking off, the young model's journey was cut short by a painful and harrowing event. When she was on her way back home, she was attacked by two men with razors. The attackers aimed at her face and left her with painful scars.
Marla revealed that her former landlord was behind the attack. He reportedly had a scuffle with the young model, and he decided to settle the score by attacking her beauty. Since then Marla began believing that her beauty and the way she looked caused the assault. This shaped her firm belief that being beautiful is 'unsafe'. The attack was so brutal that Marla, who was 25 years at that time, needed well over 100 stitches to close the wounds. Over the years, Marla's scars might have healed, but the attack changed her life forever. She stopped caring about her looks and poured all her energy into caring for her daughter. She did that for several years until her daughter encouraged her to take care of herself.
This is when Marla realized that she was ready to turn a new chapter in her life, and landed at Dr Sheila Nazarian and Nurse Jamie's office. Marla explained to the ladies how after that attack she couldn't go back to her modeling career due to the scars. She also touched on how her self-confidence had taken a hit. The ladies were touched on hearing Marla's gut-wrenching experience.
They then brainstormed together and came up with a plan to work on helping Marla get some of her confidence back by working on getting rid of some of her scars. Dr Nazarian suggests that Marla needs a facelift. Nurse Jamie too agrees with Dr Nazarian, but suggests liquid facelift instead. Liquid facelift comprises of filler in the jawline, filler in temples. She also felt that Marla would benefit from some botox around her eyes, and sugar threads around her jaw area to give a complete facelift. Nurse Jamie took over Marla's case and went ahead with administering her treatment plan.
At the end of which we saw a visibly younger-looking and more confident Marla. Marla was beyond pleased with results, and in fact hired the same photographer who clicked her during her modeling days, to shoot her portfolio. She also decided to channel her new-found confidence in doing advocacy work for how victims of crime are treated.
