Netflix has unveiled the latest trailer for Guillermo del Toro's 'Pinocchio,' revealing a dark and beautiful interpretation of the classic tale – with the director's signature attention to detail. Fans will now be able to see "Pinocchio wars" as Disney+ and Netflix compete for this year on what promises to be one of the most heated battlefields ever.

Fans first saw the stop-motion movie in a brief teaser at the beginning of the year. Gregory Mann plays the title role, alongside David Bradley as Geppetto and Ewan McGregor as Cricket. Del Toro, well renowned for films such as 'Pan's Labyrinth,' 'Crimson Peak,' and 'The Shape of Water,' is co-directing 'Pinocchio' with Mark Gustafson, and he has previously characterized the picture as a "passion project." “After years of pursuing this dream project, I found my perfect partner in Netflix,” he remarked back in 2020. “We have spent a long time curating a remarkable cast and crew and have been blessed by continuous support from Netflix to quietly and carefully soldier on, barely missing a beat. We all love and practice animation with great passion and believe it to be the ideal medium to retell this classic story in a completely new way.”

Now, both streaming platforms will premiere a Pinocchio film in the following months: Disney+ in September and Netflix in December. The first is a live-action remake of Disney's animated classic, directed by Robert Zemeckis, while the second is a darker, animated film based on the original plot, directed by Guillermo del Toro. We now have teaser trailers for both, and they look great. But viewers are already wondering if they really want to watch two Pinocchio films in such a short period of time. And, if not, which one should they go for?

'Pinocchio,' co-directed with animator Mark Gustafson, will be released in theatres in November, followed by a Netflix release in time for the holidays. The plot closely resembles Carlo Collodi's original novella. Even though everyone adores Disney's cartoon 'Pinocchio,' people wonder why the studio opted to adapt it into a live-action picture in the first place. The original from 1940 is still going strong. Nonetheless, if anybody can pull off the combination of real action and animated special effects required to bring 'Pinocchio' to life, it's Robert Zemeckis. And his long-term colleague, Tom Hanks, appears to be a wonderful fit for the role of Geppetto.

Ever since the trailer from Netflix dropped, fans took to social media to raise the most important question: How many 'Pinnochio' movies do we actually need? And that too in one year? A fan wrote: "What is this, like the 20th version of Pinocchio in the past 5 years?"

Another fan tweeted: "Why on earth in a year of 2022 we have 2 new Pinocchio movies coming out".

Another tweet read: "Wait so this isn’t the “when do I get to leave and be on my oowwwwwnnn” one? How many Pinocchio movies are coming out rn?"

A fan talking about how they don't want to see another 'Pinnochio' being made, wrote: "This is the LAST Pinocchio movie i want to see for the next 40 years. Not because the market suddenly bombarded us with like 6 of them since the pandemic But because none of them will match the effort this one has".

A Twitter user criticizing the animation for the stop-motion picture wrote: "Yikes. Like Kurt Russell from the Hateful Eight carves a wooden version of Ewan McGregor’s robot from the movie Robots with a bigger nose".

However, some fans are appreciating the fact that Toro's 'Pinnochio' isn't a rip-off of Disney's version: "Looking back at all the Pinocchio movie adaptations made over the century, this is the 1st of these that isn't a rip-off of the Disney version or unintentionally creepy. There's also the Robert Zemeckis version coming this year but his film is simply a remake of 1940 Disney film".

A fan tweeted how they weren't spooked by Toro's 'Pinnochio' adaptation as promised by is hopeful: "Ngl that first Guillermo del toro Pinocchio trailer wasn’t quite as creepy and spooky as I’d wanted but I have faith he’ll pull through and give the kiddies a good scare".

Some fans are happy with the number of 'Pinnochio' content they'll be getting as they tweet: "Also, this means we're gonna have two Pinocchio movies this year since Disney's comes out in September. Two different styles to enjoy. And you know what, I love that for me. I love Pinocchio, so I'm going to happily enjoy both of them".

Questioning why Toro's adaptation is getting all the praises while the other two (Disney's version and the one directed by Vasiliy Rovenskiy) a fan tweeted: "Take example the latest movie adaptations of Pinocchio (for some reason we have three recently), we have a hilariously bad adaptation, a corporate souless cashgrab and a passionate project, the three have the same thropes, why only the last one is loved and the others dont?......"

Another fan's tweet read: "I truly don’t think the world is prepared for 3 Pinocchio movie within the span of 1 year".

Guillermo del Toro's film is part of Netflix's mini-resurgence of stop-motion animation. Netflix will release 'Pinocchio' in December 2022.
