'Pacific Rim: The Black' did what was expected of it. The Netflix anime, set in the same universe and timeline as the visually stunning film franchise created by Guillermo del Toro, packed quite the punch. The movie that preceded, 'Pacific Rim: Uprising' starring John Boyega and Scott Eastwood made for a ho-hum watch, especially after Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba nailed it in the first installment. However, the anime spin-off of the monster franchise packs style and equal substance.

The show’s primary focus is on its human characters -- a brother and a sister who goes on an adventure to find their parents. From the looks of the recently released trailer, ‘Pacific Rim: The Black’ feels more cinematic than the second film and opened to impressive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes rated it a healthy 84% with the critic consensus reading, "While The Black carries over all the grit but little of the humor that distinguishes the Pacific Rim film franchise, its striking visuals and expansion of series lore will likely please Kaiju fans."

When does 'Pacific Rim: Season 2' release on Netflix?

What is 'Pacific Rim: The Black' Season 2 all about?

Set after the events of the 2018 film 'Pacific Rim: Uprising', the anime series follows two siblings in Australia that's seen quite the damage after some Kaiju rampage. In season 1, Taylor and Hayley control the Atlas Destroyer, a small Jaeger with minimum capabilities that were left behind after the monster attack. They fend off enough threats — both human and kaiju who want control of the jaeger. The season also introduces a teen assassin and a mysterious boy with a Kaiju connection.

"In the epic series conclusion of Pacific Rim: The Black, the journey is far from over. Our brave siblings Taylor and Hayley still hope to reach the safety of Sydney aboard Atlas Destroyer, the scaled-down training Jaeger left behind when Australia was evacuated. With teenage assassin Mei and the mysterious human/kaiju hybrid bOy joining Taylor and Hayley, this makeshift family must cross a dangerous territory controlled by the bloodthirsty cult Sisters of the Kaiju. These zealots, led by the enigmatic High Priestess, are convinced that bOy is their long-awaited Messiah and will stop at nothing to indoctrinate him into their dark circle – something Hayley would sacrifice everything to prevent."
