Plot
According to the official synopsis shared by Netflix, 'Away' is loosely inspired by Chris Jones’s Esquire article of the same name. 'Away' is an epic love story and a thrilling tale of survival set against humanity’s greatest endeavor – the first human mission to Mars. Emma Green is an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind in order to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous, year-long mission. 'Away' is a series about hope, humanity and how ultimately, we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things.

Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank will be essaying the role of astronaut Emma Green.
Swank's last project with Netflix was the sci-fi thriller 'I Am Mother'. She is the recipient of two Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. She received international acclaim for her portrayal of transgender man Brandon Teena in the biographical drama film 'Boys Don't Cry', for which she received her first Academy Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.
Josh Charles as Matt Logan
Charles is set to play the role of Matt Logan, a NASA engineer and Green's husband. Charles is known for his role of Dan Rydell on 'Sports Night', Will Gardner on 'The Good Wife' – a role for which got two Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Talitha Bateman of 'Love Simon' fame, 'Altered Carbon' star Ato Essandoh, 'Homeland' star Mark Ivanir, 'Gangs of London' actor Ray Panthaki and Vivian Wu will also be part of the cast of 'Away'.
Creators
Jessica Goldberg (of 'The Path' fame) serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Ed Zwick (of 'Nashville' fame) will direct the first episode and also serves as an executive producer alongside Andrew Hinderaker, Matt Reeves, Adam Kassan, Michelle Lee and Jeni Mulein.
