'NCIS: New Orleans' Season 6 Episode 6 shocks fans by killing off major character: 'Hope the show is still as good'

Fans were clinging on to the hope that maybe 'NCIS: New Orleans' would stray from killing off a character as significant as him, but sometimes, that's exactly what the show calls for to keep the plot intense and gripping.

This article contains spoilers for season 6, episode 6: 'Matthew 5:9'

As of November 5, 2019, our beloved Agent LaSalle from the six-year-old CBS procedural 'NCIS: New Orleans' is no more - a plot development that has left fans shocked and emotional.

After spending an entire season digging deep into the mystery of his young brother's disappearance at first, and death later, LaSalle finally departed from the show. Speculations about the character's imminent death began surfacing on social media when actor Lucas Black - who has played the role for six seasons now - first posted about how honored he was to play the role, not all that long ago. And finally, in tonight's episode, the coffin has been nailed.

The official synopsis from CBS had revealed that we'll see "Lasalle hoping to avenge his brother's murder by tracking a drug ring in Alabama he believes is responsible; when Pride assists with the case, he crosses paths with Eddie Barrett, an elusive individual who knows more than he is sharing." The course of action sealing LaSalle's fate began with him getting shot at the hospital in tonight's episode. Things just go downhill from that point as, despite the best efforts made by LaSalle's team and the hospital staff tending to him, nothing seemed to work. Still, fans were clinging on to the hope that maybe 'NCIS: New Orleans' would stray from killing off a character as significant as him, but sometimes, that's exactly what the show calls for to keep the plot intense and gripping.

Commenting on the arc of tonight's episode, Black himself tweeted: “Matthew 5:9 - my favorite Title of any episode. 'Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.' Jesus preaching the truth during what we call The Sermon on the Mount. #NCISNOLA #AgentLasalle"

What followed were several tweets from fans and viewers who still haven't been able to digest the shock of losing LaSalle. One of them tweeted: "I'm speechless.. can't believe no more LaSalle... hope the show is still as good...." Another one chimed, still reeling in disbelief, sharing: "Holy shit did NCIS New Orleans just kill off a major character and a fan favorite?" Comparing this tragedy to the loss of fan-favorite character Ziva on the original NCIS, a third fan commented: "Wasn’t expecting this. I may be done with NCIS New Orleans. This is worse than Ziva!!!"

'NCIS: New Orleans' season 6 airs on Tuesdays at 10pm only on CBS.
