'NCIS' season 17: Ziva and Gibbs' chemistry in the premiere has fans feeling like 'the world is right again'

Ziva's secrets, Gibbs' wounds, a whirlwind of tensions and shots fired recklessly all over - it doesn't get any more 'NCIS' than this!
PUBLISHED SEP 25, 2019

The fan-favorite CBS' action crime drama 'NCIS' just returned with its season 17 and more than being thrilled for the season premiere, fans just can't quiet down about the return of one of the most badass agents from the show, Ziva played by Cote de Pablo. But as tensions arise with Ziva's return, things get murkier and twisted for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, with Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs "still recovering from his gunshot wound" and trying to "push the team to investigate the body of a bludgeoned sailor, found at an illegal nightclub."

What has been labeled by fans as one of the best season premieres, particularly openings, that the show has had in the recent past, the first episode, titled 'The Truth Is Out There' begins with Ziva and Gibbs' long overdue reunion, cut short by bullets tearing through the basement where Gibbs was stationed. In due time she explains why she pretended to be dead all these years and her vulnerability comes through as she speaks about the safety of her family - Tony, and their daughter Tali. But even though it seems unlikely that we will get to see either of them, it is Ziva's mission to protect her family at all costs, that managed to draw fans' attention and win over their hearts, as it emerged to be the highlight of the premiere.

Fans took to Twitter to talk about how spectacular the premiere was. User @Anke861, vouching for all of us, pleaded with the show's official Twitter account to not take Ziva from us again. "Feels like the world is right again. Crazy, I know, but The character belongs on this show. Writers, please work with Cote to keep her," they shared through a tweet, while @llgreen18 chimed in about the Ziva and Gibbs partnership, saying: "Great show!!!! Makes you realize how much you miss the gibbs/ziva relationship! Nice writing and acting crew!!!!"

The premiere was also promising in terms of what to look forward to, as @MargeSilbert tweeted: "The Show was AWESOME. So glad Ziva is back. N it looks like next week is even going to be more exciting. Great job to all the Stars on the Season Premiere 17." But all of them felt it was the time to point out Pablo's brilliance as Ziva, since despite a four-year-long gap, she slithered into the role with such grace, ease, and panache as it she had never left.

"Cote deserves an award for tonight's stellar performance," wrote @CyndiGarcia8, adding: "Her strength, her vulnerability and that hurt statement to Gibbs about him not going to look for her when the news about her death was put out. Awesome!!!!" User @Butters243 also chimed in, enthusing: "Cote!!! OMG you have not missed a beat. Your acting is so spot on its like you never left. And that accent!! Now if only you all could get Micheal to do a cameo."

Amidst a sea of love, filled with positive and wholesome comments was one not so pleased viewer who believed: "It’s time for this show to be cancelled. Seriously you guys have lost almost all the original characters and the people you got to replace Ziva, Tony, Abbey and that other blonde chick are HORRIBLE. It’s time to pull the plug."

'NCIS' season 17 premiered on Tuesday, September 24, at 9 pm only on CBS.
