Spoilers for Season 12 Episode 1 'The Bear'

The brand new Season 12 of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' opened with the lack of an Eric Beale, but making up for all the lack of lean, tall, geeky White man was a buff, fit, Black FBI Agent by the name of Devin Roundtree. The name might seem familiar to fans who follow the long-time running drama ardently. Played by Caleb Castille, this wasn't the first we saw of Agent Roundtree, neither the last as the actor has recently been upped to series regular. But who is Roundtree? How does he square into the game? And who could he be replacing? Here's all you need to know about the new character.

According to the official synopsis of Season 12 Episode, 1 titled 'The Bear', "When a Russian bomber goes missing while flying over U.S. soil, Callen and Sam must track it down in the desert and secure its weapons and intel before the Russians on board destroy the plane; Hetty gives Nell a cryptic assignment." It's a rough sketch of all the action that goes down, but missing in the synopsis is our former FBI rookie, Roundtree. The character was first introduced back in Season 11, when he worked alongside our core NCIS: LA duo Sam and Callen, and was noticed by the two. This is what had prompted Roundtree to consider a position with the titular branch of justice.

It really works to Roundtree's benefit that the character has a very compelling backstory too. The young agent Roundtree is also the surrogate father of his younger sister – thus leaving him raised to a pedestal in the eyes of fans, making him an immediate hit with the viewers. The other person Roundtree was an immediate hit with was of course Fatima - another new addition upped from a recurring role to series regular in the previous season. It looks like NCIS: LA is making little traditions of their own but in a totally adorable string of moments in 'The Bear'. both Fatima and Roundtree get paired up to do a lot of the work. Which makes sense because they have had the same arc getting into the core NCIS: LA team. But could this also mean there might be something more than simply platonic dynamics blooming between the two?

With Deeks and Kensi leaving their future on the show so vague and unattended, one could do with a filler couple while the OGs take some time out. The immediate fondness Roundtree and Fatima have found for each other does give hope to more.

'NCIS: Los Angeles' Season 12 premiered on November 8 and will air every Sunday at 8:30 PM only on CBS.
