Natalie Portman looked uncomfortable when Stephen Colbert brought up one topic: 'It's not funny...'
Natalie Portman was a bright student who brought home straight A's even as she conquered the ranks of Hollywood as a child artist. Hence, it comes as no surprise that she is a Harvard alumna. The 'Thor' actress discussed a special university connection while appearing on 'The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert' in 2018. Colbert complimented Portman for choosing smart on-screen characters, and the topic veered towards her education. "But you went to Harvard. You're a smarty pants." The television host painted a wise picture. "Well...I guess," Portman trailed off. "You're saying they let dummies in at Harvard?" Colbert pointed out with a hint of sarcasm before revealing. "You graduated the same class as Jared Kushner, didn't you?" he teased. "That is correct," Portman instantly replied, visibly embarrassed. She proceeded to put her head down in shame as a sign of mock protest.
"Can I ask you something about Kushner? At Harvard, do you have memories of him?" Colbert prodded further. "Sure, yeah," the 'May December' actress replied. Colbert was then curious about their bond: "Did you guys hang out?" he asked. "We were friendly," Portman answered with a nervous laugh. "Okay. I heard he wasn't that great of a student," the seasoned host added in jest. "That is true," Portman revealed with a burst of laughter. "Would you care to elaborate?" Colbert egged the 'Lucy in the Sky' actress to spill some juicy details. But Portman wished to maintain class and dignity; she refused to give away her former friend.
"Yeah, um, what can I say on TV?" she paused. "Anything you want, it's a free country," Colbert jeered. "I don't know, unfortunately, it's not very..There's not a lot funny to say about someone you were friends with becoming a 'supervillain.' So it's not funny," Portman tried to change the topic. "He said in some interview that the friends he's lost because of politics are, like, exfoliating," the Oscar winner revealed. "I like the spa metaphors," she added. "So you're a dead skin cell," Colbert mocked. "Proudly," Portman replied in a similar vein. After that, they both made jokes about how Kushner's complexion was radiant and baby-soft because he had cut off all of his close friends.

“I, for one, am actually glad that our Class of ‘03 finally has a real, live fascist among us. Who says Harvard isn’t diverse?”

Fans were impressed with Portman's candid confession: "The intense look in her eyes when she's talking about Kushner—she really doesn't like him," a viewer noted. "Natalie Portman is a gem. I love her for her moral stance. Kindness is the best characteristic a person can have. Politically savvy too," a fan gushed. "The fact that she calls Kushner a supervillain makes me love her even more. Smart and pretty," an online user praised. The interview has since garnered over 4 million views as per The Things. Reasons remain unclear as to why the 'Jackie' actress called her close friend a 'supervillain.' Portman and Kushner had attended each other's weddings, People reported.
Jared Kushner didn’t send in a note for Harvard’s 15th Anniversary Report. But flip to the page where his entry would go and you’ll find this, the end of a note from an alphabetically adjacent classmate. pic.twitter.com/HgN7wbPl9p

Portman wasn't the only one who openly despised Kushner's role in his father-in-law, President Donald Trump's, political ambitions. Several of his Harvard classmates called him out for his contrasting political stance, People reported. “Our classmate Jared Kushner surely knows that climate change is real, and yet he watches as regulations are dismantled daily,” the alumni report continued. “Shame on you, Jared Kushner.” Political campaigner and former classmate Ben Wikler posted several reactions on X condemning Kushner for being blind under the Trump administration.
