Spoilers ahead for Season 1 Episode 9 of 'Nancy Drew' titled 'The Hidden Staircase'

At the end of the last episode, George's (Leah Lewis) sister Ted (Ariah Lee) gets kidnapped. With that being the main issue this episode, the investigation into the murder of Tiffany Hudson (Sinead Curry) took a backseat.

In the winter finale of the series, Nancy (Kennedy McMann) and the Drew Crew desperately start looking for Ted, whose kidnapping is eerily similar to the investigation that started Nancy's sleuthing career at the age of 12.

Ted's kidnapping reminds Nancy of her very first case — she put a certain Nathan Gomber behind bars. Going by the clues at hand, the Drew Crew infers that there is a copycat in Horseshoe Bay and that Ted is a victim. A little digging leads them to Moira Baker, a lady who used to constantly visit Nathan in prison.

What follows is a race against time to find Ted and save her from the clutches of Simon, a dark spirit who feeds on people like Nathan and Moira, forcing them to feed him the souls of kidnapped children.

Ted was eventually rescued from Moira's clutches by the end of the episode. At the same time, Nathan warns that there is more to Simon than they think and that in the future, it will be a lot more sinister.

The group also receives another good news by the end of the episode — that Ace (Alex Saxon) has finally woken up from his coma.

Elsewhere, Bess is now one step closer to finding out the truth about her identity — if she really is a Marvin or not. Since Nancy took Owen's (Miles Gaston Villanueva) help at the beginning of the episode, the writers utilized him till the end.

Bess confesses that she came all the way to Horseshoe Bay from London to find out if she really is a Marvin. They agree to do a DNA test. The fall finale episode seemed to have been ending on a good note altogether. But not so fast.

Just as Nancy and Carson (Scott Wolf) are investigating the kidnapping and the warehouse, they begin reconnecting, something happens that threatens their relationship and could separate them forever. Carson has been a suspect for the murder of Lucy Sable since the beginning of the series.

Or at least Nancy has put in quite a lot of work to gather (circumstantial) evidence against him, so much so that she also had us thinking he was involved.

So Carson is arrested at the end of the episode for Lucy Sable's murder. And we won't know more till 2020. 'Nancy Drew' airs on Wednesdays at 9 PM ET/PT. The show will return after the winter break in January 2020.
