SAG Awards 2023: Fans rejoice as Ke Huy Quan becomes FIRST Asian male actor to win film acting award

LOS ANGELES. CALIFORNIA: This is Ke Huy Quan's year and we are just living in it. After starring in one of the top ten films of 2022, 'Everything Everywhere All at Once,' Ke Huy Quan's career has skyrocketed. The film had many outstanding actors, starting from Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, and Jenny Slate to Harry Shum Jr, James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis. 

'Everything Everywhere All at Once' acclaimed two Golden Globes for Yeoh and Quan at the 80th Golden Globe Awards with 6 nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Director; five awards from a leading 14 nominations at the 28th Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture; a SAG-record four awards from five nominations at the 29th Screen Actors Guild Awards, including acting nominations for the overall ensemble and individual nominations for Yeoh, Quan, Hsu, and Curtis. That is not all, 10 nominations at the 76th British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film, winning Best Editing; and 11 nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, becoming the most nominated film of the ceremony.

'Thank you for rooting for me'

Ke Huy Quan, the comeback star of 'Everything Everywhere All at Once,' has been the feel-good story of the awards season and he just made history at the SAG Awards with his win for best performance by a male actor in a supporting role. Quan is the first Asian male to win a film acting award at the annual guild ceremony since its inception in 1994. "Thank you, thank you so much!" said Quan as he accepted the honor. "This is a really emotional moment for me. Recently, I was told that if I would've won tonight, I would become the very first Asian actor to win in this category. When I heard this, I quickly realized that this moment no longer belongs to just me. It also belongs to everyone who has asked for change." He ended with a note of gratitude, "Thank you everyone for rooting for me, I will be rooting for you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"



 

'Bravo'

After watching the acceptance speech, fans flooded social media with their congratulatory posts. A fan said, "Yay! Long overdue," while another added, "Congratulations Ke Huy Quan!" A fan shared, "Words cannot describe how happy I am for him. What a damn journey he has been on!" A fan wrote, "Bravo," while another added, "Loved his speech, kinda got me welling up with tears". 



 



 



 



 



 

'The Fabelmans' Paul Dano, 'The Banshees of Inisherin' costars Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, and 'The Good Nurse's Eddie Redmayne were also nominated.
