On February 8, 2021, My Chemical Romance (MCR) guitarist Frank Iero shared the link to his merchandise on his Twitter handle and that did not sit too well with his followers. Iero's new crew neck has a robotic mask on the front, whereas the black hoodie has a heart shape fence design on the back with “VIOLENCE” written in the middle of it. A user replied how as a "depressed lesbian" she will need an excuse to explain to her mother why she needs to buy another black hoodie. Iero responded to her by saying that he is not a “lesbian in the classical sense” but understands her plight.

On Iero’s tweet, one fan replied: “in order for me to purchase the violence hoodie i’ll need an excuse for me to explain to my mom why i need another black hoodie as a depressed lesbian”. To this, Iero responded by saying, “although i may not be a lesbian in the classical sense, i do feel your plight & also appreciate your descriptive nature. In return may i offer you the term ‘depresbian’ & encourage you to wear “this black hoodie” as the quintessential “depresbian uniform” ill be getting one too”.

When another fan asked Iero if his take can also be applied to depressed bisexuals, Iero replied in affirmative. He tweeted, “we are a depressed yet all inclusive group...however we reserve the right to no actually want to be in a group, because being around other people can often times suck the life out of you. So y’know. Also stop making me talk to you, Vix. I already said it was a 1 time thing”.

Some Twitter users applauded Iero’s sense of humor, while some slammed MCR’s back-up vocalist as a “king of lesbians”. One replied, “so basically what you’re saying is people that aren’t into women either aren’t depressed or shouldn’t be wearing black hoodies? The logic”. Another tweeted: “frank iero king of lesbians”. Another wrote: “What do you mean "in the classical sense", are you a lesbian in any other sense???? Or is this you making this same joke again”. Another responded by writing: "this is totally not funny. i don’t understand how you thought you could say that without consequences. now you have to tell us in what way you’re a lesbian. unacceptable".

Frank Iero’s future projects:

Iero, 39, joined My Chemical Romance in 2002 and was featured on two tracks in their debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. The band released two more critically acclaimed albums before announcing the disbanding in 2013. After the band's split, Iero started writing songs in his home studio. In 2014, he revealed his debut album Stomachaches. In 2018, he announced his new solo moniker, Frank Iero and the Future Violents.

In 2019, My Chemical Romance declared they would be reuniting and were set to play shows in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan in 2020. However, the tour dates were postponed to 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During a recent interview with Louder Sound, Iero talked gave us a hint of his future work.

“I will say this though, at the moment I'm working on between four and five different projects which is awesome but it's all spec,” he said. “We're gonna do this thing, have fun with it and see where it goes. Will it ever see the light of day – who knows? Maybe not, but then maybe also everything will happen at the same fucking time and that'll be really stressful. I just don't know, I’m afraid. I do know I'm keeping fairly busy, much to my wife's chagrin.”
