'Cory and Taylor’s Baby Special': Did MTV pull the plug on the show due to Taylor's old racist tweets?
Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge had been excited to welcome their bundle of joy and decided to make the viewers part of their journey in their self-shot special for MTV. A sneak peek inside the episode promised to show the viewers how Cory and Taylor managed to welcome their baby girl amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
While all the fans were glued to their screens, waiting to watch the show, they were surprised to find out that MTV had decided to play a 'Catfish' special instead of the birth special. The episode left many scratching their heads and many stated how MTV managed to catfish them by airing an episode of 'Catfish'.
Some wondered if the cancellation of the episode came due to some of the racist comments stated by Taylor that resurfaced in the wake of 'Black Lives Matter'. Some of the old tweets that were tweeted by Taylor read, "We have to greet everyone at work but sometimes I won't greet the black people because they scare me" -- hahahaha I won't say names!", "Every halloweekend I get punched in the face by a black girl," and many others.
Fans were shocked to see this and many wondered how she was planning to be a good stepmother to Ryder if she said things like this before. Taylor never commented on the situation but looking at the heat she was receiving it is quite possible that MTV decided to pull the plug on the episode.
However, many people thought they should have aired the episode because Taylor's comments were from eight years ago. Some came to her defense saying she was young and shouldn't be penalized for something she did so long ago. Others thought Taylor has changed and should be given a chance rather than not airing their episode.
"If the special was canceled due to old tweets then there are TONS of other cast members that need to be removed from programming. Y’all had Taylor on TM knowing about the old tweets and showed her apology. So why act like it’s an issue now?" one fan questioned the network.
Another wrote, "Y'all saying #TeenMomOG isn't on tonight because of Taylor's past racial comments are hypocritical AF. Y'all screaming in the streets for people to educate and understand and GROW. But heaven forbid Taylor do that and y'all still drag her." Some pointed out how Amber Portwood was still on the show despite the domestic violence allegations against her. "If MTV isn't going to play the Taylor/Corey special, ADDRESS IT!!! Y'all pick and choose what you wanna be behind. Amber's beating ass is still on, ain't she?", said a livid viewer. While it looks like the episode won't be airing tonight, many fans have been asking MTV to put it back on.
They pointed out that the episode aired on MTV Canada and we wonder if the network would listen to these fans.
