NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: You know it’s a bold bet when you pick a cult film and present a reboot with a different cast almost two decades later!

'Mr and Mrs Smith' (2005) brought together Hollywood's iconic pair, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, in the role of a married couple and assassins employed by rival companies. The film was a box office hit and is still remembered for the couple's sizzling chemistry and the sleek action sequences.

Prime Video series with the same name, presents Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as John and Jane Smith who are instructed to pretend as a married couple while they are assigned some life high-risk espionage missions.

The eight-episodic series takes us through the development of their personal relationship as they navigate through their demanding job.

Donald Glover deals huge responsibility with freshness

Comparisons with the original are inevitable. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are undoubtedly great actors, but when the bar has been set so high in the 2005 film, you can't serve anything less to the audience. The viewers are gonna watch it with some preconceived notions, and it is the job of the makers to meet them.

Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover, as the creators of the show, come with a huge responsibility on their shoulders. While picking the essence of the original film, they bring freshness to the table with new casting and storyline.

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine have an irresistable chemistry and it just gets better as they are assigned new missions each episode.

The series has a good blend of intriguing spy tracks and the dynamics of a new relationship. It delves deeper into the stages of a romantic relationship navigating us through the first kiss, to double date, and eventually the hard phases including infidelity and breakup.

Intrigue arises with the open-ended finale in 'Mr and Mrs Smith'

It's time for John and Jane to part ways as the series approaches an end. The last episode finally offers you what you have been craving for so long!

A cat-and-mouse chase followed by smooth action between lovers-turned-enemies is definitely the highlight of the show.

Sadly, the action ends sooner than you begin to enjoy it, leaving you craving for more. But here's the good part!

The series ends on a cliffhanger leaving scope for another season. Though the current season had limited action and romance, we can hope to get more if the series is renewed for another season.

'Mr and Mrs Smith' is currently streaming on Prime Video
