Apart from the entrancing appearance and a peculiar accent, Gloria Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) of 'Modern Family' is highlighted by her unhinged confidence. Seldom has her beliefs acted against her, giving her the boost to have things her way.
However, in Episode 8 'Tree's A Crowd', Gloria realizes the consequences of her overconfidence, when it ends up hurting an already devastated Manny.
Gloria's son Manny is going through a rough patch following his breakup with Sherry, the only romantic relationship he has ever been involved in.
While Jay tries to help Manny overcome his feelings for his former girlfriend with his age-old wisdom, Gloria constructs a plan which she thinks would bring Sherry back in her son's life.
The Columbian beauty of all the people in the family approaches Luke (which looked more like threatening) to go talk to Sherry and convince her to patch up with her son.
However, Luke's mission turns into a romantic stint when he ends up kissing Sherry after watching her breath-taking theatre performance. This isn't the first time Gloria has tried to bring Manny and Sherry back together, ignoring the damages it could inflict on her son.
In the previous episode, when Sherry meets Manny at the recording studio and is all flattered by his new manly approach, Gloria pushes her son too hard to overdo it, which drives Sherry further away.
Gloria's intuitions may have always served her good, but she seems to have fallen short of her understanding of the needs of her heartbroken son.
She hails from a background that prepared her from the start to face the toughest of situations; be it as a single mother driving a taxi for survival or the trophy wife of a rich husband, who struggled for a long time to find acceptance in the new family.
However, Manny was brought up differently, despite his mother's constant efforts to make him more of a man than a boy. It's high time Gloria stopped imposing her thoughts on Manny, which is only bringing him further down.
