‘Heat’ is an iconic crime drama film helmed by veteran filmmaker Michael Mann. A critical and global box-office success, the film garnered $187 million globally. Now in a recent ‘WTF Podcast’ chat with host Marc Maron on Spotify, Mann finally broke the silence on his upcoming ‘Heat 2’ novel and also gave a hint of a very large ‘Heat’ sequel movie already underway. ‘Heat 2’ novel will be released globally on August 9, 2022.

Opening up on his plans to turn ‘Heat 2’ novel into an awaited sequel of the classic crime drama film, Mann said, “This is a book, but it’s also going to be a very large movie.” Sharing some teaser with the host who asked him if the work on the sequel has already commenced or not, Mann affirmed, “Yes, I can’t talk about it, but yes.”

Talking about the premise of the ‘Heat 2’ novel and his idea to explore the earliest life of these characters, Mann said, “I always wanted to explore the early lives of these guys. Also, to find a way to bring the past into the present and the present being about 2002, seven years after the events of ‘Heat’ the movie.”

The official synopsis for the ‘Heat 2’ novel reads, “One day after the end of Heat, Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer) is holed up in Koreatown, wounded, half delirious, and desperately trying to escape LA. Hunting him is LAPD detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino). Hours earlier, Hanna killed Shiherlis’s brother in arms Neil McCauley (De Niro) in a gunfight under the strobe lights at the foot of an LAX runway. Now Hanna’s determined to capture or kill Shiherlis, the last survivor of McCauley’s crew, before he ghosts out of the city. In 1988, seven years earlier, McCauley, Shiherlis, and their highline crew are taking scores on the West Coast, the US-Mexican border, and now in Chicago. Driven, daring, they’re pulling in money and living vivid lives. Meanwhile, the fallout from McCauley’s scores and Hanna’s pursuit cause unexpected repercussions in a parallel narrative, driving through the years following Heat.”

As soon as this exciting news was posted, fans started giving in their reactions to the same. “One of the best heist movies you could ask for. Hope to see this soon with some A list actors like the first!,” said a fan. “Something about the action being the juice,” said another fan. “The reason Heat is still popular is because a guy lost his shit over accurate and realistic firearms, something which is now commonplace because nerds online lost their shit when someone doesn't have the right submodel of a rifle,” a fan noted. “If we had to sit through three hours of avengers, marvel bullshit, this better be four hours minimum,” shared a fan. “The boys had their fun, now it’s real menn’s turn,” a fan noted. “Just finished the book today, it was quite good. I’m curious to see how he’ll do the sequel as a film,” shared a fan.
