'Memories of the Alhambra' episode 13, 14 spoilers: Did Se Joo create Emma to be most powerful part of the game?
Se Joo was inspired by his noona to create this game, and the shy game creator may be paying homage to Hee Joo by making Emma the most important aspect of it
With every passing episode, the mystery of ‘Memories of the Alhambra’ seems to be getting more intense and the answer to this mystery seems farther away than was previously assumed. Considering we are at the edge of our seats by the end of each episode, the wait of a week after every couple of episodes seems torturous.
In the previously aired episodes (11 and 12) of the Netflix/tvN show, we saw Jin Woo (Hyun Bin) losing his martyrdom syndrome and making Professor Cha (Kim Eui-sung) face the demons that have been chasing him. The evil Cha finally got a glimpse of the personal hell Jin Woo was living in for so long.
Jin Woo also decided to stop playing games (ironically) and recognize the one person who has been by his side through thick and thin, mostly thin. Jin Woo and Hee Joo (Park Shin-hye) are finally dating and are working together on finding her missing brother/the creator of the game, Se Joo (Chanyeol). From the promo for the next episode, it looks like the duo has pieced together the fact that the café has a significance in the game and may be key to finding Se joo.
Jin Woo and Hee Joo can be heard discussing about the café, where the latter agrees it is important to her brother. Meanwhile, it also seems like one widely awaited union, of Hee Joo and Emma – her game counterpart – is also scheduled for episode 13. He Joo is seen getting Emma with, “Annyeong, Emma” (hello Emma).
Shin-hye, who gushed about Chanyeol, who plays her younger brother on the show, posted a photo of the two of them, with her dressed as Emma, and the latter holding Emma's guitar. They are clearly filming a scene together, probably one in which it is revealed Se Joo is trapped in the game and is spending his time with Emma, but for some reason cannot reveal himself to Jin Woo - until now, that is.
We do see a glimpse of Se Joo in the promo, and he is in the café. It looks like he even has a conversation with either Jin Woo or Hee Joo, where he claims that even though this whole ordeal began with Se Joo wanting to sell his game to Jin Woo, he may end up never selling it.
We wonder how all this will pan out for Jin Woo in the end, seeing as he has lost everything he used to have, including his freedom, in the pursuit of winning and owning the rights to this game. As fans know, Se Joo and Hee Joo are pretty close, and it is obvious that his beloved noona is one of the inspirations behind his elaborate, impressive and addictive game.
It is only natural that Emma, who not only looks like his sister, but also plays the guitar at the very important café, could be the key to finding Se Joo. She may have the answers to winning the game, she could be the guardian of a gate Jin Woo does not even realize he needs to open. The possibilities are infinite.
Another bothering aspect about this promo is that Hee Joo has entered the game and may get as addicted as Jin Woo is and that thought is troublesome. She is the one saving grace holding him onto the real world, and if she gets lost the in the game too, we fear how the show would end.
Episodes 13 and 14 of ‘Memories of the Alhambra’ will air on Netflix and tvN Saturday January 12 and Sunday January 13, respectively.
