HOUSTON, TEXAS: Do you know who made the first pitch in the Houston Astros’ Opening Day game? It’s none other than Houston native, 28-year-old ‘Something for Thee Hotties’ hitmaker Megan Thee Stallion. As it was seen on Thursday, the American rapper and Grammy winner skillfully hurled a baseball to Astros infielder David Hensley, who sat behind home plate and managed to catch the ball despite it swerving slightly out of the track.

The ‘Body’ crooner graced the event wearing a customized cropped Astros jersey with her last name Pete inscribed on the back and white jeans. She accessorized with a statement dazzling necklace that said "Hot Girl."

Tory Lanez files to appeal Megan Thee Stallion shooting conviction citing 'irrelevant evidence'

'You look good in that purple': Megan Thee Stallion catcalled on way to trial while Tory Lanez gets praise

In a short clip shared by the Astros on their Instagram page, Megan could be seen saying "Yo, what's up it's Megan Thee Stallion, aka the Houston Hottie, aka the Hot Girl Culture, and I just threw out the first pitch at the Astros game!" in a quintessential Houston accent before sticking out her tongue and making her signature move. Astros shared the video with the caption, "Chillin’ out in Houston with @theestallion 🤘".

As the current World Series champion Astros took on the Chicago White Sox for their first game of the season, Megan got a warm reception from Hensley and the Astros' alien mascot, Orbit. However, unfortunately, the Astros could not call it their night as they went on to lose the match 2-3.

The Astros posted another solo photo of Megan with the caption, "The stars were out for #OpeningDay 🤩". Megan even practiced before making the pitch as it was announced before the match, that Megan was "practicing beneath the stadium just a few minutes ago and was throwing strikes."

Tory Lanez shooting row

In July 2020, Megan was shot in both of her feet by Tory Lanez. In the next month, Megan claimed she did not immediately reveal her assaulter’s name because she “didn't want to die,” reported Variety. Referring to the shooting, in October 2020, Megan told The New York Times that, "Black women are still constantly disrespected and disregarded in so many areas of life. I was recently the victim of an act of violence by a man. After a party, I was shot twice as I walked away from him. We were not in a relationship. Truthfully, I was shocked that I ended up in that place”. In 2022, after Megan’s testimony, Lanez was convicted on three felony charges related to the shooting.

Megan attended the game just a day after Lanez appealed in court against his conviction. The hearing is scheduled for April 10, 2023.

'This is why we lost'

Fans didn't take too kindly to her stint at Minute Maid Park. One user commented, "Should've got someone whose a real fan not just from Houston". The second says, "Come on Houston we can do better than this 🤦🏽‍♂️ #embarrassment". The third criticized scathingly, "This is the worst thing ever posted on this account. 💀". "We win the world series..come back and THIS is who throws the first pitch. Then Houston needs to do better then that..smh!! 🗑," commented the fourth.

Some could not comprehend what she said in the short clip posted by the Astros on their Instagram. One said, "I’m from Houston and I’m confused". The second asked, "What did she say?" Another commented, "Can someone translate for me?"

Fans were not only criticizing Megan and Astros, they also made a case for Mattress Mack as one said, "Mattress Mack should have thrown out the first pitch!" The second joined in, "They should have had mattress Mac throw out the first pitch, honestly totally wasn’t for this!" "I would rather see Mattress Mack draped up and dripped out then seeing this," commented the third. The fourth said, "So many other people who would have been better choices".

However, there were supporters of the rapper too who thought Megan was the perfect choice as she is from Houston. "The people that don’t understand what she’s saying, obviously aren’t from Houston!! H-Town babyyy🤩📍," supports one fan. Another supported, "Always the white folk under here hating, per usual. Sad🤣. They cant help it. We love you Meg!❤️". The third said, "How can y’all hate on this woman. It’s really sad. She IS FROM HOUSTON SOUTH PARK. Also y’all can call her ghetto all you want but she still graduated from Texas Southern. A Houston University. And she reps Houston to the fullest. Ima go out on a limb and just say y’all can’t stand seeing a black woman doing good for herself. Y’all just a bunch of mad haters".
