HOUSTON, TEXAS: A man was arrested after he hurled a beer can at Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as he rode in the Astros' World Series victory parade. A 33-year-old male was arrested without incident and is facing assault charges, Houston police said on Monday, November 7, 2022. A video that is now viral shows Cruz being targeted as he rode in a truck through Houston. The incident took place as Cruz was driven in a convoy, where there were other politicians, which passed near Houston's City Hall

The unidentified man threw a beer can from within the crowd of Astros fans, and it hit Cruz in the neck and chest. The 51-year-old senator managed to block the can, which seemed full with his hand, saving his head. Police confirmed that he did not need medical attention.

In the video, a minder standing beside Cruz can be seen leaning across and trying to block the can, going on to point to the crowd and then speaking into a microphone placed in his shirt, alerting police. In the short video, one can hear boos and jeers directed at Cruz, who wore Astros colors.

Following the incident, Houston Police tweeted, "HPD made one arrest during today’s victory parade. A male, 33, threw a beer can at U.S. Senator Ted Cruz as the Senator was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith St. The beer can struck the Senator in the chest/neck area. The Senator did not require medical attention."

The post further said, "Nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident. He was taken to jail and faces assault charges. We will release the suspect's name and booking photo here when formal charges are filed."

Social media, meanwhile, found the video hilarious. "Excellent toss - must have not been a pitcher from the Phillies," one user wrote on Twitter. "Couldn't have happened to a better person," another person wrote, with a laughing emoji. One user said, "Why waste a good beer?"

"Is the beer can ok," one user wrote, while another said, "Free whoever that man is. Not all heros wear capes and this man is a national hero and patriot. I got his bail and I'll represent him free if charge." "If there’s a gofundme for this hero’s bail, I will gladly donate," one user wrote.
