'MasterChef: Back to Win' fans baffled as Christian wins apron over a simple salmon dish
'MasterChef' with Gordon Ramsay has returned to FOX! 'MasterChef: Back to Win' is the title of Season 12 of the cooking competition series, which brings back 20 participants from past seasons for another opportunity to fight for the title and a grand prize of $250,000.
In the MasterChef kitchen, things are never simple. The season premiere brought back 40 fan-favorites, with the returning chefs competing in head-to-head audition contests in groups of four. The two chefs who prepare the most amazing comeback dish in each round will advance to the Top 20. The meals produced for the season premiere of 'MasterChef: Back to Win' are not for inexperienced cooks. All the participants gave it their all to earn a second chance at the title. Since most contestants gain practical experience after leaving the MasterChef kitchen for their seasons, they have returned stronger than before. The judges had a difficult time deciding whom to bring back, but some fans had their doubts.

Christian Green was a MasterChef competitor in Season 5. He came in the fifth position. Christian became a private chef after his debut and also conducts catering and private parties. In his online shop, he also produces and sells food seasoning. He's returning to win it after almost seven years. Christian, Lexy from Season 11, Amanda from Season 6, and Wuta from Season 10 competed in the final bout of the night. Christian is now a well-known private chef who breaks down in tears when he says he's returned to do this for his late grandma, who passed away last year.
A Shrimp Burger with Chili Garlic Sriracha Aioli and Homemade Tots is served by Wuta. Pan-Seared Scallops with Fried Calamari and Lemon Cream Sauce are served by Lexy. Amanda is the last to present her Zaatar Olive Oil Cake with Lemon Sesame Snow and Pulled Sugar. The judges loved all the dishes, with just a few minor criticisms.
In contrast, Christian prepared Bourbon Glazed Salmon with Creamy Mashed Potatoes and Sautéed Garlic Spinach. Joe thinks it's simple and hopes it's perfect. Gordon says it's perfectly done. Aaron describes it as "rockin'." Some fans agree with Joe, as Christian and Amanda eventually make it to the competition. After seeing Christian's final dish, fans were split on the internet regarding the judges' decision to choose Christian over Wuta or Lexy. A disappointed fan took it to Twitter and wrote: "Christian really made it with that simple ass salmon and mashed potato dish? I'm always rooting for black people, but umm #MasterChef"
