One of the characters who played a central role in 'MacGyver' Season 1 was Nikki Carpenter (Tracy Spiridakos). After initially shown as someone who could be a potential terrorist, the opening season had a comprehensive storyline for the character which eventually revealed she was a deep-cover agent working for the CIA. In the end, when Mac (Lucas Till) asks her if she is going to come back to The Phoenix Foundation, she reminds him she still has to eliminate the terrorist threat.

As 'MacGyver' Season 5 looms large, the time is right to speculate if Spiridakos could reprise her role as Nikki in the series. While nothing much has been said about the character's potential return, the ending leaves the door open for the writers to integrate Nikki back in the show, even if it is in the form of a guest appearance.

With a love triangle brewing between Mac, agent Desi Nguyen (Levy Tran), and brainy hacker Riley Davis (Tristin Mays), there's a chance to throw Nikki in just to make things more interesting.

This isn't a stretch. Fans are well aware of the history between the two characters and with Mac being shown as human over the last four seasons, Nikki's return just lends more depth to the series. The other reason why this could work is it bodes well with the show's knack of throwing in surprises when we least expect it the most.

Nikki's entrance would be a refresher as well. Last we saw, it was a chance for her to clear her name, and now with her trust gained from Mac & Co, it would be solid to see her back again. As far as the show goes, the plot of the season opener revolves around Codex kidnapping Phoenix owner Russ Taylor (Henry Ian Cusick) for one main reason: a prisoner exchange. So it's assassin Murdoc (David Dastmalchian), held by Phoenix, for Taylor.

Titled 'Resort + Desi + Riley + Window Cleaner + Witness', the official synopsis reads: "Mac and the team infiltrate a glamorous hotel used as an international hideout for criminals to find a woman with vital information on Codex. However, their target has a new secret identity, including a completely new face, on the fifth season premiere of 'MacGyver, Friday, December 4 (8-9 pm ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network."

'MacGyver' Season 5 premieres on Friday, December 4, 2020, at 8 pm ET on CBS.
