'Lovestruck in the City' Episode 9: Jae-won finds out truth about Eun-o, can they restart their relationship?
'Lovestruck in the City' is an abstract tale about a couple who met in a surfing town and fall head over heels in love. The only problem is that the woman -- Lee Eun-o (Kim Ji-won) is posing as Yoon Seon-ah who is a bright, free-spirited girl and it is this free spirit that had attracted Jae-won (Ji Chang-wook) to her in the first place. Could he really accept Eun-o for who she is? There seems to be a reason as to why she would live under an alias but when Jae-won finds out the truth in the episode, he is unable to figure who he really had fallen for.
He repeatedly questions himself over who was that girl that he had fallen for and why would she lie to him about everything? Was the love that she proclaimed fake too? That thought haunts him and she has hurt him enough to have him believe that he will no longer be a part of this farce. The ring that he had worn all this while, he even throws it in the same river by the side of which they had planned to reunite in the first place. Of course, seeing that Eun-o doesn't wear the ring also hurts Jae-won because at that moment he came across as a fool more like anything.
Jae-won had promised before he had found Eun-o that he wouldn't ask her why she disappeared or the situation in which she had to make that decision as long as they are able to reunite and until he learns the truth, it is clear that he is hoping to patch up with her. However, when he does learn the truth, a rift forms and it is big enough for Jae-won to abandon Eun-o on the streets despite having searched for her everywhere. Of course, in the beginning, it seemed as if Eun-o has managed to control her feelings for Jae-won, and this became especially clear when the surfboard that the two of them had made together was something that she was able to give away easily.
On the other hand, at the end of the episode, we saw how Eun-o had tried her best to hold on to the semblance of a happy Seon-ah at least within Jae-won's memory and she had failed. This also shows that she does care for Jae-won, and while she may not wear the ring on her finger she did wear it in a chain around her neck.
'Lovestruck in the City' originally airs on Kakao TV on Tuesdays and Fridays and can be streamed on Netflix in the US.
