'Love It or List It': Hilary Farr nails it again but fans judge her for quoting massive renovation price of $200K

Her design chops won again and this time David gave her a tough competition by showing a house with a swimming pool and that too a bit over budget

In this week's 'Love It or List It', couple Van and Caroline put Hilary Farr in a fix by asking her to come up with a budget for her renovation plans.

Because she has never worked without a threshold, it was tough for her to even draw up the plans but eventually she quoted them a massive $200,000, which they thought was a bit much and immediately deducted $20,000 from it. Hilary agreed and said that they have a fair budget in mind and that it would help her finally put something together.

But viewers have opposing views. They thought the prices were high and that a full-blown, nice, new house can be built using the renovation money Hilary quoted. A fan wrote: "Their reno budget is more than what some folks pay for their homes. I can't with these folks. #LoveItOrListIt." While another tweeted: "Did she just say over 200k for renvo. Hell cheaper to knock that down and start from scratch #LoveItOrListIt."

In Hilary's defense, this could also be an outcome of asking Hilary to decide a budget. But it was a smart move because it left the designer with more money and she could easily make additions to her plans. "@LoveItorListIt really like this new approach... budget first, offer additions with the extra money. #loveitorlistit@hgtv," a viewer said.

The couple wanted a renovated bathroom, kitchen, basement staircase, laundry room, and a ground floor master bedroom. When Hilary got to work, she found out a lot of these tweaks wouldn't be possible without pulling down a few walls. And after she was done, there was some extra money left, which she could either return or redo the master bathroom.

Meanwhile, realtor David Visentin showed Van and Caroline a slightly over-the-budget house that was spacious, complete with a done-up basement and a swimming pool. It was a tempting offer, but the pair chose to love Hilary's design over the swanky new pad David took them to.

Finally, the couple decided to "love it" and complimented Hilary on doing such a fabulous job with the house. Van and Caroline said the upgrades were fantastic, adding that the outdoor living spaces can be done later.
