Louisa May Alcott's novel 'Little Women' is like a comfortable cup of hot chocolate on a cold day. The story revolves around four sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, who are determined to find the sunshine in their rather grim lives, while their father is away at war. In this era, a book featuring women protagonists steering the story forward is quite unusual and for good reason. In fact, 'Little Women' was considered a feminist novel.

The story has inspired many film adaptations, and the latest, starring Meryl Streep, Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh, hit the screens on December 25. Fans are in awe of the film and have flooded social media with overwhelming reactions.

One fan wrote, "#LittleWomen was a delightful film. Saoirse Ronan continues to be a shining star and delivers another great performance. The whole cast is fantastic too. Thank you Greta Gerwig and we need more movies like this where more women are in front of the screen and behind."

Another tweeted that they 'cried' throughout the film. "Crazy that I ONLY cried for 134 minutes of the 135 minute runtime #LittleWomen." One fan wrote, "Hours later and I'm still full of hope, love, and joy. This teaser isn't kidding! Haven't cried tears of happiness at the end of a movie in like, forever."

"I’m taken aback by #LittleWomen #LittleWomenMovie. This could very well be my #1 film of the year. The way Greta cut up the original novel and put it back together in her own way, hitting very specific parallels and beats is astonishing. I adore this film," tweeted another.

Fans loved the fierce and independent  character of Jo, and said that she holds great relevance for the current times. "I knew I’d like Little Women, but I’m here to tell y’all that I LOVED IT. Jo March is everything!! She’s fierce and tough and completely unapologetic about it all. Such a relevant character to women’s lives in 2019..."

Directed by Greta Gerwig, 'Little Women' seems to have won many hearts.
